2012 NBA Draft Thread

Postby TB on Mon Jan 16, 2012 2:39 am

We need a thread to discuss college ball. It gets mentioned throughout other threads, but since we still have a chance at either drafting top 7 or trading for a pick, it should have its own thread.

As always, my views change drastically throughout the season, but right now here are a couple thoughts to start off with:

- MKG is the guy I would target all the way up to pick number 1. He is anywhere from 5 to 14 in mocks i've seen, but I wouldn't doubt if he goes top 3 and ends up the best player in the draft. Call me crazy but I actually like him on the Warriors more than any other player in this draft.

- I always kick myself if I start liking big white dudes, but Leonard is for real. Illinois crappy guards may cause this guy to guy late lotto, but he has the talent of a top 5 player. He's definitely a guy you need to give possessions, and you also need an active rebounder next to him.. but if you do that, he could be special. Think hibbert with more athleticism and slightly less shot blocking.

- Bradley Beal could end up as a Harden type impact without a Harden type draft number. He is almost too advanced for his own good. yes, his shot is not falling, and because of this his draft stock is falling instead. But he constantly makes the fundamental plays on both ends. He is really taking his Ray Allen comparisons to heart (outside of the jumper results).

This can be the college basketball thread that turns into a draft thread if we get a pick. Interested to hear your guys thoughts on the prospects so far.

Good thread.

We'll be keeping our pick. Although a minor track malfunction on the tank against Detroit makes me nervous.

I want all the info I can get in the draft on CENTERS.

Something tells me the Warriors will play just "well" enough to end up with the 8th or 9th pick, thereby handing the pick over to the Jazz.

I liked Drummond obviously, but since he isn't declaring, I like Jeremy Lamb as a replacement for Monta, or MKG as well.

What do you guys have on Thomas Robinson? I've only recently heard of him, and I haven't seen him play.

I think Brad Beal would look good too if we're in the 7-10 range, although he lives and dies by his reach, which he won't have in the NBA. He's got a bit of an Evan Turner problem.

Don't be discouraged by Beals jumpshot. His shot is money. The start to his season reminds me a ton of the start to Eric Gordons season.

Also, Turner spent his first 2 college seasons over thinking and trying to force things since he had such a large skill set for his size. Beal is the opposite. As a freshman, he already looks like a vet out there. His play has reminded me of Aaron Afflalo thus far. I think his ceiling is past prime Ray Allen, which is really good.

We NEED our pick this year. There are 8-10 players that are top 5 worthy. We could get an instant starter and probable long term solution in the top 5, this draft is stacked in the lotto. Please Mark Jack, stink it up.

That should tell you everything you need to know about Thomas Robinson the person. As a player he reminds me of a taller, more athletic Paul Millsap. Still a bit short, but strong enough to bang inside, athletic enough to switch onto a wing, and smart and tough enough to be a big time rebounder.

There's no chance there is a good outcome to this situation. The only reason the draft exists is to f*ck the Warriors.

I love basketball. I love watching it. I love playing it and I love talking about it. Unfortunately I really don't understand most of what I am seeing so when I start going on and on about it pay little or no attention.

I'm not with the Jeremy Lamb band wagon. Even with steroids he's gonna be 190lbs top. Dude makes Brandan Wright look like Ronnie Coleman. He's also beginning to abandon driving the lane and settles for tough jump shots.

All the great SGs in this league can drive the lane and finish well. Kobe and Wade wouldn't be Kobe and Wade if all they did was shoot tough jump shots.
