Memphis Grizzlies
Looking to next year, the Grizz have a fairly similar team markup as ours -- a defensive center with limited offensive ability anchoring the post, and a lot of offensive star-power in the starting lineup but sub-par defenders at most positions. I think they are a good team we should look at to see how to do it better. Here are some basic lineup comparisons:
Conley - Curry : We win this matchup, but probably not by a whole lot since Conley has grown into a very capable playmaker and defender. Stats say Curry isn't much worse defensively though.
Allen - Klay : Hard to say who "wins" this matchup, since Allen is probably as good defensively as Klay is offensively. Still, we already have a lock-down defender in McGuirre on the bench.
Gay - Wright: Pretty obvious here, since SF is our most glaring weakness.
Lee - Zach: Randolph wins, but not by an enormous margin. He's a better defender than Lee, but he still isn't that great. Lee is also a much better chemistry/locker-room guy.
Gasol - Bogut : This is the most intriguing one. I am fairly certain a healthy Bogut is a league above Gasol, but from what I've seen the stats suggest they're pretty close.
Bench: Our depth trumps theirs. Outside of OJ Mayo, they are sorely lacking in depth. Meanwhile we've got Rush, McGuirre, Jefferson, CJ, Nate... all capable backups for various positions. We're lacking in big man depth though.
So overall we're a better team on paper than Memphis, although probably not by much. The good thing, though, is that Memphis's biggest issue is a lack of offensive fire-power. They're ranked 7th defensively (credit Gasol) and near 20 offensively. Our team has a chance at being top 10 in both defense and offense next year with Bogs anchoring the post.
If Memphis is any indication, there's no reason to suggest we can't be a top 4 team next year if healthy (and if we can pick up a couple good role players to fill out our depth issues).
Conley - Curry : We win this matchup, but probably not by a whole lot since Conley has grown into a very capable playmaker and defender. Stats say Curry isn't much worse defensively though.

Grizz>>US
Gay>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wrong, RJ combined
ZBO> Avi
Conly/Allen > or = Curry/Klay
Marc=Bogut
we havnt even seen how our team will mesh. The grizz all mesh well. Allen is a phenomenal defender along with Gay and that really puts them over the top.

Re: Memphis Grizzlies
Yea, the Grizz are much better than our team fully healthy.
The Grizz are a good example for us to follow, but it won't be easy to be as good as them. Gay is no superstar, but he is allstar caliber and obviously much better than any SF we have here, all of them put together actually.
*ZRand is better than Lee, though defensively they're both bad, ZR is a little better.
*MGasol and Bogut are even, though health is the biggest thing right now for Bogut.
*Conley is better than Curry right now. Curry has everything to prove, while Conley has successfully run that good Grizz team for a few years now.
*I'd rather have TAllen and his defense than Klay's offense. Klay has been a nice surprise, but if we substituted TAllen in his place, the team would be better. The fact they've got Mayo as the backup gives them a big SG edge, where we have Rush, but he plays some SF as well.
*Gay is much better than our SFs
*Their bench does better than ours. They play their roles better, that's why they're winning like they are.
I had compared the Warriors to the Grizz about a week or so ago and we can mold ourselves after them, but that won't lead to being a real contender. The best way is to try to get that superstar, one that is wanting out of his current team so he can be had rather cheap, and that way you can build a team like most championship ones are. We could make a trade for Iguodala or a SF similar to that level, but that just makes us like the Grizz, a very good team that likely will never be champion.

Their bench is in no way better than ours, talent wise. I'm not sure what play their roles better means. How do our players not play their roles better? And Curry and Conley have been roughly even statistically this past year, despite Curry's injured ankle.
Both teams are pretty close, but we have a very obvious depth advantage. And if Memphis is really better than us, how is it that they're near 20th place offensively? It's not like they have a super defensive team, there's 2 maybe 3 good defenders on that roster.
This is just a knee-jerk take based on how well Memphis has played. We're already a far, far superior offensive team to them. Bogut is guaranteed to make us almost as good as them defensively. So how can you say that Memphis is still better? I don't get it.

Memphis is much, much better. It will be that way until the Warriors win alot and prove otherwise.
Their bench play their roles better means that their backups do just that, take to their strengths and fit in well when they play. Mayo is more of a scorer and shooter and he takes to that very well. Spreights is better than any backup big we've currently got also. IF we have more depth, which I don't think we do, it counts nearly for nothing when their starters outplay ours and they win as much as they do.
It doesn't matter that the Grizz are only 20th offensively, they have won alot and have done well the last few seasons. Stats aren't the thing all the time, wins are.
Don't think we're offensively either. Gay is better than Klay by a fair bit, TAllen is better than McGuire (who likely would be the starting SF if no other is added to the team), ZRand is better than Lee and MGasol is slightly better than Bogut. Curry may be a little better scorer than Conley but he hasn't done much in his career as a scorer. Add Mayo as well, no way they are not better offensively than us.

Migya, you're not making any sense at all. Obviously we're better offensively than Memphis, we're rated 7th and they're rated 19th. How can you possible say we're not a better offensive team when we are. It's not even an opinion, it's a damn fact -- this team scores more points than Memphis was. So how can you say we're not? Seriously, what the hell are you talking about? Lol
You're just making random open-ended comments. You're saying they are a better team than us because "they win a lot". So what's your point? We haven't even been able to see our team play yet, how do we know how many games we're going to win?
Seriously dude, you're flabergasting me right now. Your argument is basically "they are better because they are better".
If they are a better offensive team than us, why do we score so many more points than they do?

MKG could be that Rudy Gay that turns our future around. To think Gay could have been ours if we would have just tanked properly. One damn pick away

Assumming they lost Mayo and Arthur or Speights, I'd say that we've got a chance to be better than them...
Conley-Pargo-Hudson
Allen-Arenas-Selby
Gay-Pondexter
Randolph-Arthur-Cunningham
Gasol-Melo-Haddadi
For example, vs.
Curry-Robinson-Machado
Thompson-Rush-Jenkins
Barnes-Jefferson-Miller
Lee-Nicholson-McGuire
Bogut-Biedrins-Tyler
I think it's even
Conley-Pargo-Hudson

Yeah, I think it's pretty obvious that Nate-Rush-Jefferson-McGuirre-Tyler is better than Pargo-Arenas-Pondexter-Mayo. I'm not sure how you can really argue that they have a stronger bench than us tbh.

You want to go with stats do you, like they mean a whole lot when comparing a team that has been among the best in the West for at least the last two seasons to a team that has been one of the worst in the West for at least the last three seasons, last two decades really, but hey, we'll go with stats then:
Warriors are tied 6th in shots made, Grizz are tied 14th.
Warriors are tied 9th in shots attempted, Grizz are 10th.
Warriors are 8th in FG%, Grizz are 16th.
Warriors are 3rd in 3pt shots made, Grizz are 27th.
Warriors are tied 8th in 3pt shots attempted, Grizz are tied 28th.
Warriors are 2nd in 3pt%, Grizz are 24th.
Warriors are 29th in FT shots made, Grizz are tied 10th.
Warriors are 29th in FT shots attempted, Grizz are tied 13th.
Warriors are tied 9th in FT%, Grizz are 16th.
Warriors are 29th off rebs, Grizz are 5th.
Warriors are 27th def rebs, Grizz are tied 24th.
Warriors are 28th tot rebs, Grizz are tied 16th.
Warriors are 7th in assists, Grizz are 24th.
Warriors are tied 23th in TOs, Grizz are 16th.
Warriors are tied 10th in steals, Grizz are 1st.
Warriors are 5th in blocks, Grizz are tied 12th.
- Going by that, the Warriors have better rankings and since they have more blocks, yet less steals, just as good defensively. Well the, the Warriors should be winning more than the Grizz and by quite a bit.
Conclusion - These sort of stats mean fukall!

Umm no, you just suck with basic stats. I'm not even quoting advanced stats, for all I know I'm completely off base -- I'll look into that.
Warriors are ranked 7th in points per game. Memphis is ranked 20th. In other words, Memphis scores less points than us.. And no, it's not because we play at a faster pace, we're ranked 12th I believe and they're ranked 15th in pace.
Why is it so hard to understand for you? You want to pull out legitimate statistics that disprove me, go ahead, I'll take it happily, but don't pull our BS stats you don't understand and use it to disparage stats in general. It's just dumb and has no place in a real discussion.

It has been for a few years now at least that the Warriors score alot of points due to their pace, end of story. We've got players that like to run and gun and that's what gives points. Memphis plays slower, more controlled basketball and that results in less points scored.

But at the end of the day, the total stats say the Griz are much better defensively, better than we are offensively, and are a better rebounding team, hence are a more winning team.
What you're doing is ignoring some of your own stats that actually do show why the Griz are better in order to say stats don't matter-- just so you can continue to claim the Griz are better in ways the facts don't support.
In the end, the stats still have us with better offense and Memphis the better team. Memphis doesn't become a better offensive team just because you like their players better individually or because they somehow win more games.

Our pace is much slower this year than past years. What do the other years (that had only Lee, Curry, Dorell, and Beans in common) have anything to do with this year's performance with a current roster? Stick to the current roster and their projected performance.
Yes we're better in the open court but offense is offense and you don't get to ignore points just because they happen to come on fast breaks.
If you want to say Memphis has better half court offense and you prefer a team that can operate in that situation, you would have a valid point.

What I meant was exactly how I said it, the Warriors score alot due to their pace. This team is still a run and gun one. We are still small and built to run, only when Bogut is healthy is there a chance the team will slow done, but there is no denying the way they are built and have been built for years and its fairly small and for speed.

Re: Memphis Grizzlies
I already addressed pace -- we're 12th, they're 15th, the difference is marginal enough that it can't cause such a large discrepancy in offense. How about instead of arrogantly sticking to your knee-jerk opinion, you actually bother to read my posts? I'm done discussing with you, you clearly just like talking and don't bother listening.

Re: Memphis Grizzlies
I listened, I just don't agree with that stat, don't know what the basis for it is, how they worked that out. All I know is that Warriors have been a fast paced, run and gun team, for not just this season, but many seasons. They have always been small and built for speed. That equals more scoring, for opponents as well unfortunately. So basically Memphis must have much better defense then, alot better. For the big difference in winning between the two teams, if Warriors are better scoring, then Memphis defense is the difference you'd have to say with that basis.

In other words, you see what you want to see and refuse to believe the facts. Understood.

I don't know where you got your stat from. I listed alot of stats for both teams and made a conclusion from that.
