Standings Prediction Contest 2014-2015

Post#1 » by Chris Porter's Hair » Sat Nov 1, 2014 3:39 pm

Okay. Sorry for the delay, but I think I got this up and running. The good news is that the work I did last year allowed me to seemingly get this working in about 10 minutes without touching one line of code. The game can be found here:

http://pattyanddave.com/dave/warriors/prediction

Because of the late start date, I gave people a week to enter their predictions. The deadline is 11/8, so get your predictions in before then. The winner gets... pride. Lots and lots of pride. If you run into technical issues, let me know. If you don't remember your password... sigh. I am pretty sure I added some sort of half-hearted lost password flow last year, so I'll try to remember how that works. Good luck; may the odds be ever in your favor...

EDIT: I *think* I remembered that if you have forgotten your password I need to manually intervene, but that it is now pretty easy for me to do. So if you really can't remember your password, let me know.

First. Thanks for putting it together. Gotta say it's kinda hard to pick who will be the 9th and 10th seed in the west. Lots of good teams on the bubble there.

We're up to 15 entries. Still a weak showing. Step it up, people.

I keep tweaking mine. Probably will do so until the last minute. Really not sure how to read several teams at this point (particularly in the West, of course......)
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

I'm pretty sure the code to automatically generate standings is broken too. I'll get to it...

Those standings make no sense, I realize it's an average but one of POR or OKC must not be lower than 4 since one of them will win the division.

Looking at that, me thinks some people forgot about it.

I think it's based off of record, not actual standings.

LOL I don't get why people think that Washington or Miami are better than Toronto.

Lowry is the best pg in the East right now, yes he's better than John Wall. And that Irving kid is a JOKE as a pg, they should really get Lebron to play the point...
And to settle the argument as to who has the better back court between Toronto and Washington, easily Toronto when you factor in defence.

Their whole team plays terrific defence with no major weaknesses in their defence. Coach casey WILL take you off the court if you make too many defensive errors or are just a **** defender to begin with.

On top of that, which has been a surprise for me, is they have the second best offence in the NBA, possibly the best now that Dallas has dropped off a bit after a hot start.

They are so deep and Lou Williams has been better than Jamal Crawford by a country mile. He's been the most significant reason why their offence is so tough now.

With Jonas still only 22 and improving steadily and the spare cash they'll have next season, they are going to be at least a top 3 team in the east for years to come.

I'm sad I missed it this year. I always do great in one conference and horrible in the other, was hoping to correct that :(

Only 9 games left and I am still tied for first. Which ironically I finished last year tied for first. Western Conference anyway... Eastern Conference, near the bottom... just like last year.

How is everyone else doing? Is it time to crow... or time to eat crow?

Looks like CPH won the East and a bunch of us tied for 2nd there.

In the West hamncheese was first and CPH second. And I was near the bottom. Although I'm not sure the final standings got picked up in the west... shouldn't HOU be 2nd instead of 5th?

Anyway, a good year for CPH.

And Sleepy has some studying to do for next year. :-P

The scoring on the site isn't based off the end of the year standings yet.
