How do you rank the Warriors players at each position?

Post#1 » by wfiles » Fri Oct 14, 2016 8:44 pm

Sports Illustrated had the ranking of top 100 NBA players:

Steph Curry is the best point guard and #3 overall.
Klay Thompson is the 3rd best shooting guard behind James Harden, Jimmy Butler and #19 overall.
Kevin Durant is the 2nd best small forward behind LeBron James and #2 overall.
Draymond Green is the 4th best power forward behind Anthony Davis, Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge and #13 overall.
Zaza wasn't ranked in top 100.

Do you agree?

Curry: #1 PG
Durant: #1 SF
Green: #1 PF
Thompson: #4 SG (Harden/Butler/Middleton)
Pachulia: #30 or so? It's hard to say. He seems to have fallen off a cliff after the break last season and I don't know how far.

Durant better than LeBron? Hard for me to think that after the way the Finals series ended and LeBron's long track record.

I agree Lebron was #1 SF last year. Maybe he will be again this year, not sure.

Middleton is out so it really is all the same.

Olipado is a possible #3 this year though.

I'm not sold on Oladipo as an efficient shooter. He takes some bad shots and is more of a volume guy. I don't see him as a winner either, but maybe that's just me.

how quickly people forget... now steph is the #3 overall in the league. when before the injury in the playoffs just last season he was undisputed king of the league by a country mile. now that he is healthy again, i hope he shows everyone that he is truly back.

I think Klay is the best SG in the NBA. #1. He plays defense which Harden does not. The amount of points he is scoring in preseason with Durant is scary.
Durant is #2 SF. LeBron has the rings
Curry is number #1. Westbrook has some ball stopper in him and has never beaten this team but you cant knock the triple doubles. I would also put Kyrie Irving in that talk. I guess it comes down to what you define as the PG position.
Green #4. I had to look this up to do this. I placed Towns and Anthony Davis ahead of him. I probably would even put Zach Randolph too. He is a better defender than Love and Blake.

Steph #1
Klay #1 (I'll take him ahead of Butler and Harden is now a PG!)
KD #2 (Bron's still the king.)
Dray #3 (KAT and AD ahead on sheer talent.)
Zaza #24 (Cousins, Whiteside, M Gasol, Drummond, Jordan, Gobert, Adams, Biyombo, Valanciunas, Howard, Jokic, B Lopez, Vucevic, P Gasol, R Lopez, Gortat, Dieng, Nurkic, Thompson, Bogut, Embiid, Noel, Okafor. Not actually a complete list, I'd probably take others over Zaza but I for sure put him in the #20-30 range.)
The hottest of takes...

Curry #1 PG
Durant #2 SF
Thompson #2 SG (For all the **** Harden gets for being a defensive sieve, he's still an MVP caliber/franchise player)
Green #3 PF (Not better than AD & Blake but he's the best & most impactful defender in the league)
Zaza, like said above, there are a ton of centers I would take over him

Outsider's opinion, for what it's worth:
PG #1 Curry
SG #1 Thompson - on defense alone, although that shot is crazy wicked
SF #2 Durrant - gotta nod towards LeBron, but I think it's closer than some would say
PF #2 Green - this one is very hard for me - Davis is #1, Griffen #2? Maybe - Towns not proven
C #20-30? Zaza --- Hard to say, probably a matter of opinion - but I think he'll be a good fit for the Warriors even if someone thinks he's #30-35 - that's not so important - it's like Livingston, where does he rank? I have no idea but he's a perfect fit on the Warriors

So if Harden gives up 50 but scores 30, that makes him an MVP-caliber player? Does he help win games? Does he outscore the opposing player? Is he a league-average shooting guard? I think he is best suited as a sixth man punch off the bench who Houston should ride when hot. Similar to Jamal Crawford in LA. Then when he has those ridiculously innefficient turnover/fg% nights, you can at least rely on the starters. Anyway Klay's easily the #1 SG and it isn't close

Curry, #1 PG
Durant, #2 SF behind LeBron
Thompson, #2 SG behind Harden.
Green, #1 PF. No one has such a diverse game as Green, who can stretch the floor, run the offense and cover all positions defensively. I thought Thompson was our most underrated Warrior.
Zaza, no idea how far down the list he is, but guessing around #25.

Of course not! But that is no where near the truth. Per 82games.com his own/opponent differential is plus 13.1 to Klay's 8.7.

Kswiss wrote:Does he help win games?

I cannot understand anyone truly believing he does not.

Kswiss wrote:Does he outscore the opposing player?

It's only my unscientific observation, but it seems like he almost always does.

Kswiss wrote: Is he a league-average shooting guard?

No! I believe that even any reasonable detractor should know he is one of the best.

Kswiss wrote: think he is best suited as a sixth man punch off the bench who Houston should ride when hot. Similar to Jamal Crawford in LA...

That would certainly give any team a great bench. But I think he is too good, too critical in the team design, and too young, to believe that should be his current role or wise.

Kswiss wrote:...Then when he has those ridiculously innefficient turnover/fg% nights, you can at least rely on the starters

One can question a mediocre assist to turnover ratio, but that can be somewhat attributed to usage, and offset by superior assist numbers. Hollinger's number one rating by somewhat significant highest (SG) PERs, TS%, and points per game, might suggest you exaggerate the frequency of his failings compared to his counterparts. I prefer averages to aberrations.

Kswiss wrote:Anyway Klay's easily the #1 SG and it isn't close

Getting warmer! Now that the seemingly ageless Wade seems more human, a case can be made for any of the top 5 shooting guards. Klay is currently my favorite shooting guard, but I hardly believe, particularly with Harden in the mix, that it "isn't close".
I like Thompson's shot over any, and I think his defense is a huge factor. I think his style of play would complement but not subvert any team offense. I just get confused when Harden is so denigrated, or even believed to be "average".

I'm with you regarding Oladipo. He isn't a very efficient scorer, doesn't shoot a lot of 3's so he doesn't stretch the floor and I like Klay's size a lot more. Klay is a better defender at multiple positions than Oladipo. I would take McCollum, DeRozan, Butler, Middleton, Wade and even Redick over Oladipo.

There's no way you can logically put Middleton ahead of Klay.
