What’s going on right now?

Post#1 » by watch1958 » Sun Jan 21, 2024 9:56 pm

What are they doing with this big gap between games?

Have they practiced at all?

The team was in shambles before the tragedy. Are they just going for counseling until the next game?
This movie is like the Rocky Horror Picture Show where everyone knows all the lines.

As hard as it is to believe, the answer is nothing. No, no practice, nothing at all. You would have heard something about it if they had.

That no news is coming out is the least surprising thing to happen this season. The team is in mourning. Everyone is trying to find the energy and focus to get back to work. How does the team prioritize winning games when they've been confronted so horrifically with the fragility of life and what's really important? If they come back and actually play with looseness, aggression and intensity I would be surprised. It's just all been so horrible, how do they cope?

The funeral may be held within the timeframe maybe.

I wonder if the time off will leave them more refreshed, or more rusty? As a fan, the gap sucks, but honestly these guys needed a big break. Obviously not ideal under the circumstances and not like a vacation, but maybe good to step back and get some perspective anyway.

Let's imagine for a moment that you work for a company that has been going through difficult times. Sales are down. Nobody quite understands why. Team chemistry is a mess. One of your co-workers has been called into the manager's office multiple times - seems he has an issue with spontaneously physically attacking clients. Can't let him go though. He's considered irreplaceable. Oh well. Maybe as a means of clearing the air a little, your regional director suggests a team building get together. So, you all get together the following Saturday for a barbecue and softball. Except that someone dies half way through the event. Needless to say, the office shuts down until further notice while you all reflect on all that has happened. A week later, when you're supposed to report back to work, how likely would you be to describe yourself as "refreshed?" Not likely I would guess. On the contrary, you'd probably be emotionally gassed and ready to find another job - not because you dislike your co-workers (well maybe the guy who attacks people) but rather because everything feels broken beyond repair and moving on would put you in a better place sooner. Right now, what I imagine is going on among the Warriors players and staff are a lot of PERSONAL decisions, discussions with family and such. Nobody can fault them for considering their options. If it were you, you would do the same.

Great timing for the Moody injury.. makes him harder to trade. Or at least I'd hope so

That said, if the situation doesnt improve soon (IE - everyone healthy, Wiggins put back in his good defensive role, Klay's role being tempered back, etc).. a guy like Moody is less important. The whole appeal of him was that he's smart enough to play with Steph and Dray's improvisation.. if that is ending, and that means if Dray leaves too, Moody's appeal drops a lot. But since Kerr's done all he can to make sure Moody's trade value is sputtering at best, it still makes more sense to keep him than not

Key is to *NOT* center the next timeline around a low IQ player.. dont see many of them leading successful playoff teams. See a lot of them leading treadmill and lottery bound teams though
