Actually Nelson yanked him in the playoffs last year because he was an unmitigated disaster on offense, repeatedly dribbling off his foot and airballing 18 footers. Defense didn't even make the top 10 reasons he was benched in the playoffs.

He was lost on both ends. Like a deer in the headlights. Top two reasons Monta got benched:

1. Offense sucked
2. Defense sucked

You can live with number two if number one is there.

Monta is in the ball game for one purpose: To score points. If he's not scoring, he's not playing, pure and simple. It's the same thing for most of the guys on this team. I don't care if a guy's getting lit up, Nellie's going to keep him in the game as long as he's putting points on the board. Heck, everyone says that Paul was lighting up Baron in the 4th, Nellie sure didn't take him out. Nellie's never been known for his defense.

As for Baron, what about guys like Kobe and TMac? They're just as bad imo. How many bricks have they thrown up for their respective teams and how far have they gone in the playoffs as leaders? Yet they're great players and if they have the supporting players they need, they can take them to the top. Baron's a great player and if he had one more dominant player, and someone who could give him a breather from time to time, he would do just as well. Give Baron the supporting cast (somebody else who can consistently score) and he doesn't have to take it upon himself all the time. Give him a coach who knows when (and how) to reign him in (when he needs to), and you wind up with a much more consistent player, which is all you really want.

Every player iss going to have certain guys they play well against and certain ones they don't, superstars included. It's also up to the coach to give him the right matchups. Baron cannot go 45 minutes against guys like Paul or Williams, plain and simple. Can he play those guys for 10, 15, or 20 minutes? Yes. Can Monta? Yes. That's the way he needs to be used. We don't have anyone else on our team who even has the potential to keep of with the likes of guys like Williams, Nash, Paul, AI, even Devan Harris (who outplayed Baron the other day worse than Paul did since he did it for the whole game).
