Game Information: The Baltimore Ravens open the 2009 regular season this Sunday, Sept. 13, against the Kansas City Chiefs at M&T Bank Stadium. Game time for the sold out contest is 1 p.m. The Ravens, 11-5 and a Wild Card entrant to the playoffs last season, are led by head coach John Harbaugh. The Chiefs, who struggled to a 2-14 mark a year ago, are directed by new head coach Todd Haley, who was the offensive coordinator of the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals in ’08.

This is the 2nd consecutive season that the Ravens have opened at home. Last year (9/8), rookie QB Joe Flacco helped Baltimore to a 17-10 victory over the visiting Bengals. This starts Coach Harbaugh’s 2nd season as the mentor of the Ravens. The new defensive coordinator is Greg Mattison, who replaces Rex Ryan, now the head coach of the Jets. Special teams coordinator Jerry Rosburg has the added title of assistant head coach.

The game against the Chiefs is the 1st of 4 games this season against the teams from the AFC West. The Ravens play back-to-back contests against the division by playing at San Diego in Week 2 (9/20). The Broncos come to Baltimore on 11/1, and the Ravens conclude the regular season at Oakland on 1/3/10. (The Ravens also play all 4 teams from the NFC North: 10/18 at the Vikings, Monday, 12/7, at the Packers and consecutive home games against the Lions and Bears on 12/13 and 12/20, respectively.)

For the 4th time in their history (2000, 1999 and 1998), the Ravens produced a 4-0 preseason record. Previous to last Thursday’s 20-3 triumph at Atlanta, Baltimore shut out the Redskins, 23-0, in the opener at M&T Bank Stadium, stopped the visiting Jets, 24-23, and won at Carolina, 17-13. Kansas City was 0-4 in the preseason. Following the Chiefs and Chargers games, the Ravens complete September with a 9/27 home contest against the Browns.

Reports are that Castle is questionable and a game-time decision.

i had to go to a sportsbar to watch it so i'm just getting back now.

good game, i was getting pretty nervous when the offense was really stagnant there for a while but a good win nonetheless.

those last couple minutes seemed to take hours, and people say the end of nba games are long

Not impressed at all but hey, a win is a win is a win.

I also know that it is natural reaction to take a lesser opponent (especially one who's franchise QB is injured) lightly and let them into a game.

Loved the passing attack of Flacco and that we used multiple receivers (including Heap!) so that Mason didn't have to carry the load yet again...

i thought it was reasonably impressive. it was a close game and the executed at the end.

that last possession by the chiefs was great, 2 near fumbles and they didn't get anything.

BTW: There is no way we're going 16 games + playoffs with Steve Haushka (sp?) as our kicker.

Sign Matty Stover for another year and only have Haushka kicking 50+ yarders.

Return to Baltimore Ravens
