Just released James Anderson, LB from VA.Tech. Minimal savings on the cap. But every penny helps.

Percy trade is good for both teams I think. The trade that surpises me is the Nners getting Boldin for a 6th. Think the Ravens fans cannot be too happy. That guy caught a lot of balls from Flacco. Will be hard to replace him I think.

Signed Drayton Florence to help take place of Gamble. I'm good with that move.

He turned 30 this past Monday too. Going out on top (at least individually) with hopefully good long-term health and basically an entire life ahead of him, can't fault him.

Panthers signed CB DJ Moore today. Good young CB. But speculation by Yakinskis as ESPN is that it may mean Captain Munnerlyn will not be back.

I would much rather have Captain than DJ Moore...

Good couple days. Keeping our CB in Munnerlyn and DT Dwan Edwards for another year. Needed that.

Ted Ginn is a huge upgrade as a 3rd WR (I assume?) and Special Teams guy. Keeping Captain was great as well. But our biggest deal is simply keeping Dwan, he was great for us last year and was a big part of our defensive turn-around. What is even better is we didn't reward him with a huge contract or anything, instead we opted to sign him on a "play for pay" one year deal.

Apparently we are in contact with Kellen Winslow, who, if back in form, could be a major part of our offense if we were to sign him.

I think we will go BPA in the 1st round again this year. I think that Star/Richardson/Shariff (one of the three) could be there for us to pickup in the first. In the Second I hope we address our O-Line or Defensive back squad. Safeties are a-plenty in the draft this year so we could go there.

Panthers owe Jordan Gross a huge thank you. Restructured his deal and gets a 3 year extension. But most importantly, his cap hit goes from over $12 mil to just about $4 mil. Gets the Panthers out of the cap hell they had been placed in by Hurney. Great job by Mgmnt and by Gross.

Added Domenk Hixon to our WR corps. Very good pick up I think.

Guys I like:

WR Markus Wheaton- Good speed. Good Agility. Solid and proven hands. Adequate hieght. I remember that he looked good during the senior bowl. Probably should be given more attention. If we are going to draft a WR, I hope this guy is on our list.

WR Justin Hunter- Seems like the full package as far as a reciever goes. I honestly like him more than I did Floyd last year, and think he has the highest cieling of any WR in this draft class if he stays healthy (team-mate Patterson could give him a run)

DT Sheldon Richardson- only concern is that we need a run stopper, not a pass rusher. Richardson also needs to bulk up more! His combine numbers weren't super impressive, but his pro-day numbers were better. One other concern is that I expected to hear more about him in pre-draft talks given how good he was during the season, but I haven't heard much at all. Also, I can't find the guys age, and have read that he might be 24 already.

OLB Zavier Gooden- Great athlete, has the speed (4.47 40) to cover TE's and range to be impactful in zone cover formations. Would play the weak side.

OT Terron Armstead- very raw, but he is an incredible athlete. Somehow at 6'5 300+ ILbs the guy managed a 4.71 40.... On top of that he has a good wingspan (34) and good strength (31 reps).

Guys I think we look at with our 1st round pick:

Sheldon Richardson - need a big DT

Xavier Rhodes - a CB of his talent is a need

Tavon Austin - big time WR, but with Domenic Hixon added, not likely now

Kenny Vaccaro - hard hitting safety is a good pick up here.

I'm looking forward to Tavon Austin. Perhaps the next Smitty?!

Tavon is more agile than Smitty could dream of being, but he isn't nearly as physical. Smitty is rediculously physical, in his prime he had the nastiest stiff-arm in the league, he could break tackles, and could catch contested balls. Marcus Wheaton reminds me more of Smitty than anyone else in this draft.

After watching tape of Tavon I have concluded that he uses black magic to break tackles. I don't think Ive ever seen such a small guy run through tackles like he does, he is just too slippery.

Charlotte agrees to pay $87.5 mil to renovate Panther Stadium and Panthers agree to extend lease another 6 years. Good for both sides. A win-win.

As for our 1st, I'm seeing a real close battle between Sheldon Richardson and Tavon Austin. But if Star L. slips to #14, gotta think they will go with him over the other 2.

DeAngelo Williams reworked his contract. Extension and signing bonus. Most importantly, it frees up about 3.5 million more under the cap, and takes Williams OFF the trading block. Huge for the Panthers!

This is what I like about Carolina- our players WANT to play here. This isn't the first time this offseason we have heard of a player wanting to stick in Carolina, and willing to do what it takes to make that possible. Gamble even retired because he wanted to retire as a Panther. That speaks volumes about the organization, and the level of commitment they show to the players.

Former Panther and current Jet Mike Goodsen arrested on drug and weapons charges today. Not good.

Return to Carolina Panthers
