I’ve got no dog in this race, though I’ve liked the Bears since the Payton days....
But the offensive play-calling by both teams has been pretty damn ugly. The Bears D looks like it’s going to be downright scary again this year, but Mitch hasn’t been making very smart reads.... he’s lucky he hasn’t been picked 3-4 times in this one. Nagy needs to really get Mitch to play smart and not worry about the big passes so much.... if Mitch played a smart mid (8-15 yard) pass/ball control game, the D wins.

Can't be a SB contender without a great QB nowadays.
Mitch looked AWFUL out there.

So bear running backs combine for 37 rushing yards and a 3.4 average.

You can... you need to have a spectacular D, which the Bears look to have, and a QB that doesn’t turn it over and can take advantage of short fields.
Really, with the Bears D, Nagy shouldn’t have Mitch looking for the homerun.....just short/midrange passes and pitches in the flat to your playmaker.
I’m pulling for the Bears. I’d like to see them meet my Chiefs in the SB so I can get some friendly back and fourth trash talk with my fellow Bulls fans.

Nagy on 3rd and 1 foot, what did he do again? He was as bad as Mitch, and its familiar. He needs to give up calling plays. Not that it will change the team

Adrian Amos puts us away.
Guess a box safety isn’t valuable, or replacable.
Dix makes about a 1\3 of Amos, I wonder who is deemed more valuable?
Can’t complain about the defense this game though.

He can't even do that.
We get field position better than 3/4 of the NFL. And our offense still looks anemic.

Yeah, game 1 of this new season wouldn’t give me confidence in Mitch. He needs to play much smarter, and Nagy needs to put him in position to do so with smarter play calls. Mitch has the skill set to excel in more of a clock management type offense and with that D you guys have, that’s all you really need. Nagy should look for more quick hit passes to playmakers and look to run more no huddle offense to catch d’s off guard and take advantage of Trubisky’s scrambling ability.

It seems both he and Mitch tighten up during primetime games.
Mitch was awful tonight to the point he looked like he had never even played in this offense, and Nagy did him no favors with poor play calling.

I think this all goes back to the lack of game speed reps in the off-season. If preseason is too risky then at least do the joint practices. Dropping game 1 every year due to rusty, unfocused players and coaches is not in the best interest of the Bears.

Imo, the issues for Mitch wasn't simply rust. Rodgers also didn't play in the preseason AND he's actually in a brand new offense. Now Rodgers wasn't necessarily his regular self, but I we saw the difference between a franchise QB and an average one.

I saw less rust based on use of joint practices which also provides game speed reps vs a terrible coaches decision to not provide any semblance of game speed reps to his offense due to fear of injury. However, to your point Mitch staring down wr's, throwing across his body and bad mechanics in year 3 probably means he will be closer to the pack as opposed to a Mahomes, Rodgers, Brees or Brady. I understand the fustration. It was even more embarrassing watching it in person sitting next to several GB fans.

Unfortunately Mitch doesn’t have it. We would know by now. I’m ready to bring back Jay! Thursday night was the worst offensive performance I’ve ever seen.

Pace did over reach on Mitch in the draft IMO. However this game was on Nagy. Lack of prep for the whole offense. He is alot like Pace in that he experiments by throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks. Its like a foodsie person who orders new/weird stuff on the menu, decides they dont like it and throws it away but that doesnt deter them from ordering like that again the next time. Eventually they end up ordering something good. Thats Bears Coaching and management. Nagy tried simulating game conditions in practice so he could circumvent joint practice and preseason reps in Mitch's development. It failed. Look at the way Andy Reid is handling Mahomes. Mahomes played in preseason. Coach Reid could have said "oh Patricks good and doesnt need preseason", but he didn't. He treated Mahomes same as the previous offseason. Mabe this offense requires those types of situations to be successful. Nagy deviated and it failed. Now he knows the "whys and hows".

Taking time since Thursday night to think it over and let the sting dissipate, I think the answer is threefold:
1. There was some rust from the last of game-speed reps. This was very huge for Montogmery and to a lesser extent, Trubisky, who needed to get in the swing of things with a bigger playbook.
2. Trubisky is probably the third-best out of three in the Mahomes-Watson-Trubisky triumvirate from the 2017 draft. This does not mean he is a BAD QB, and in fact, is capable of being a Pro Bowl QB, but he is not going to be a mad bomber who can pick up a team all on his own.
3. Trubisky also is dealing with a lost year in 2017 because he was not well-developed by Fox, then was thrown out there because of Glennon, and Fox was trying to save his job instead of let Trubisky develop. I think that we should view Trubisky as really having his "rookie" year in 2018. I expect Trubisky will have growing pains this year as well.

The problem I have with Nagy he hasn' learn from his mistakes his solo job is to develop Mitch

Sorry but thats just making excuses for Mitch by trying to blame Fox but if anything Fox knew EXACTLY what Mitch was and treated him accordingly . If anything Fox was doing exactly what Mitch needed which was working on his fundamentals while running the ball top take pressure off of him .
First it was its his first year in the offense he will get better after hes had a year in it like Mahomes
Now its Fox fault that he hasn't shown improvement in his 2nd year in Nagys offense ?
If anything after that debacle against the eagles Nagy shouldve spent the off season toning down the RPO's and focusing on getting Mitch better from under center so we run the ball better and setup the play action instead he doubled down on the RP's gave neither Mitch or his Montgomery real reps for fear of injury and the result is a embarrassing opening night loss
