I really don't get this line of reasoning.

We see it quite often: "Oh, he's a Texas guy!"

So often it will be something like "He'd be great in Houston....He's a Texas Guy!" And he's from somewhere around DFW or Austin. Hell, even if he was from Houston it wouldn't make him that much more of an appeal (see Lewis, Rashard or Thabeet, Hasheem).

Come on Rashard was a very good player until he got that outrageous contract and even his first two years in Orlando were pretty good. It's not fair to put him in the same category as Thabeet, who really only played his senior year of high school in Houston, so he's about as much of a native as Steve Francis or Sam Cassell (both played JuCo at SanJac)

Speaking of DFW guys...

If his stock continues to fall, would you take Perry Jones III at 14?

Maybe at 16. Or would Philly take him at 15?

Hmm. this has me remembering the last time we had both the 14th and 16th picks.

13. ORL - Keon Clark
14. HOU - Michael Dickerson
15. ORL = Matt Harpring
16. HOU - Bryce Drew
17. MIN - Rasho Nesterovic
18. HOU - Mirsad Turkcan

Hated Harpring when was with the Jazz but he easily had the best NBA career of this group (although Rasho did win a championship with the Spurs)

ahhhh I think we have to. I could see philly taking him also but I think they want Moultrie. Very likely he'll be a bust and I hate that he said his biggest problem in college was his confidence. Like I said before, I don't think bu's coach put him in good spots nor did he do a good job of developing him but he just has so much potential....

I've been saying we should take Perry if he's available. (Though his attitude reminds me of Eddie Griffin)

Wow, 5 white guys in a row... That doesn't seem like that happens very often anymore.

best 16th pick in the last xxx years
john stockton (1984)
ron artest (1999)

best 14th pick
cyle drexler (1983)
peja stojakovic (1996)
tim hardaway (1989)
dan majerle (1988)

last time both 14th and 16th picks actually stay in this league long enough (1997)
mo taylor and brevin knight

worst 14th and 16th pick (1993)
scott haskin and rex walters
i can't remember who they are

in the last 30 years
about 6 14th and 16th picks turnout to be good players
so that's 6/60 = 10%
10% we will get someone will be an all-star
bad news is 90% >>>>> 10%

You did all that math to prove your picks are more valuable as a trade asset for a proven commodity rather than the actual picks themselves. However, when discussing a trade for Gortat you stated that keeping those pics was better for your team. It seems to me a known commodity like Gortat, a borderline all-star at the 5 is better that a 10% chance at landing an All-Star with the pics.

Gortat is no borderline all-star (he can't even create his own offense)
Hibbert is borderline all-star (i know he made the all-star team, he did it because center position is weak)
we are lottery team
we need a star
i'll take that 10% chance for someone with more upside than Gortat

Not to mention this is a much deeper draft than the average class. It's probably the best one since '03. So I think our chances go up juuuuuust a little more.

This man knows what he's talking about. Anyways sullinger was red flagged by nba doctors, expect him to slip. I'd really like to get a third pick and get him late, Dejuan Blair slipped because he didn't have acl's and he's been fine. Heres the link:

Ahh this is another chance for Morey to work some second round magic.

we have Scola and Patterson at PF (possible Morris too)
then we got D-Mo coming over next season
and you guys want another PF Sullinger?
i guess you guys really like 6'9" center (sorry D-Mo is not a center)
i would consider getting a late first round pick on Melo though

if we can't move up
don't be surprise to see Morey move down to grab Teague and couple 2nd rounders
