How much to keep Motiejunas?

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Thu Apr 28, 2016 6:03 am

The Salary Cap is going up significantly this offseason.

Motiejunas will be a restricted FA.

How much would you want to see the team spend to retain him?

He has some injury concerns.

however...

Talented 7-footers don't grow on trees.

I am an admitted fan of the guy, and if it were up to me cost wouldn't be a factor. So what about all of you who are looking at things more rationally? How much would be too much to keep Motie?

One of the few keepers on this team and may have passed Beverley for my favorite current player. Which means he will be gone this summer.

Did you watch the playoffs after the first game? He was good.

i think someone will offer him 30mil/yr, 3yr deal. not sure of timing, but if the rockets do pursue horford and strikeout, then they probably match dmo.

I don't think the choice is in the Rocket's hand now, if you didn't extend him earlier AND tried to trade him mid season i see no reason he would help Morey out here, whatever offersheet he gets Morey needs to decide

As of tomorrow MDA will officially be the new Rockets head coach.

Does that change your opinion on Motiejunas? Would he be a guy who could fit in what I'm sure will be a 1980s Denver Nuggets on coke offense?

I'm biased (God bless the Jiagellonian dynasty!), so it's probably best that I'm not the one handing out contracts for guys like him & Capela. Realistically speaking, I have two questions:

1) Will Motie be a good fit in Mike D's offense?
2) How much will Morey spend to retain him?

I think Morey knew Dmo was gone when he tried to pawn him off to the Pistons n the failed trade.Plus the Rockets must think his back is a lot worse then what we think it is.Even Calvin Watkins Rockets ESPN beat writer said in a interview Dmo is gone.

Best case scenario is D'Antoni thinks he can use him as a stretch 4/5 and Dmo excepts a home town deal or otherwise I think he is gone to a team like the Blazers

DMo fits great next to Capela. After Capela sets the screen with Harden, DMo can receive the ball at both elbow areas and that's where he is best at. Lob back to Capela, pass to corners, or start spinning around and doing his own captain DMo thingy, even pop a mid range. In defense, the guy hustles, good on help D, while still a bit weak on the glass but got the size. Heck, why do I care about D since we have MDA anyway? If he can manage to stay relatively healthy ~60 games per season, I think he is worth a 4/60.

I was a bit uncertain about him until I saw him in the playoffs this year - not necessarily his production, but his fuel with Draymond Green. It's the missing toughness we finally get to see from DMo. I think he is complete now.

Agree with Ken. D-Mo also just needs more opportunities and stay healthy.

Absolutely. One can argue DMo never got enough chances during his development here, and his strength were not properly utilized. Was used too much on the perimeter spot up, never had enough touches or plays centered around him due to Dwight's post demands and Harden's drive needs. With Dwight likely gone and Capela pretty much a PnR roll, I really hope we can start to use DMo more creatively because he is just THAT skillful of a player in offense, in pretty much all offensive facets. One of the few things I look forward to MDA doing it.

JBB also did a bad job using him. He had no idea when he would go in next or get pulled and that messes with players. He would start the first two minutes of halves then never go back in

JBB did a bad job rotating EVERYONE lol. DMo was not the worst, he got somewhat consistent minutes from JBB. You have mini mamba DNP for 5 games in a row then starting 3rd quarter, or KJ playing big rotational minutes only in the first/second half. Typical heat check (in terms of coaching), throwing crap against the wall and see what sticks. If MDA can at least respect his own rotation that's already a huge huge plus over JBB.

Getting kind of frightened about this now!

I can't see a situation as it stands where the Rockets can afford to lose him. He's the Big Man depth at Center at this point.

I'm not sure how the Anderson/Motiejunas/Capela rotation will work

with the crazy cap, he should fetch 15mil/yr at least on the open market...if we lose out on horford, we will match obviously.

so i guess dmo is our starting center now and capela will come off the bench with ryan starting at PF

definitely look like at least 15M/yr to keep DMo
Horford is not coming
Morey is looking at Eric Gordon
funny both are players Morey been chasing but unwilling to trade for because he is asking for too much
but now he is overpaying them to come here
