The Case of Kevin Smith

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Tue Oct 2, 2012 4:43 am

Kevin Smith seems to have dropped out the depth chart in favor guys like bell. , IMO i thought him and leshoure would make a great 1-2 combo, splitting snaps and staying fresh. However, seems like Lion's want Leshoure to take most of the reps , with Bell making appearances here and there.

i thought Kevin Smith did well filling in, kept plays alive and got yards we needed. How does he go from #1 option at RB to #3 when leshoure got back?

Basically because this year and for most of his career he consistently hits around 4.0 ypc and lots of guys can do that, but we need to take shots when we can to find somebody who can deliver well north of that. Leshoure is an unknown and a 2nd round pick, they would rather hope to get lucky and have that pick pay off to hopefully solve a problem rather than have to chalk that one up in the loss column.

They might want to see if Bell can do a little more than 4 ypc too since he's untested. They are possibly going to get Jahvid Best back later on in the season so they know they are inevitably going to have to cut an RB if they can't trade one. They might consider Smith the odd man out since he's not as fresh with upside potential as they think LeShoure or Bell has. If Bell can't prove it before Jahvid is ready then they might cut Bell, and they might want to cut 2 RBs if they bring a new RB in addition to Best at any point and that could be Keiland's exit plus either Bell or Smith.

Plus Schwartz did say he envisions Bell as playing the "closer" role, so sounds like he has a whole new made up position for Bell to give him the leg up at being ahead of Smith.

That's sad, being that kevin smith has helped this team more of all the current RB's on the roster.

Well if I was in charge after he joined the team then he would have been rewarded with a Super Bowl by now if not multiple titles. But our team let us down by not seizing the opporunity and they didn't get the job done, and now he is facing an uphill battle at this typical point in most RBs' life cycle. Good luck to him next year on his next new team if he makes one if we don't win it all this year.
