Lions at 5....Draft Night Thread!

Post#1 » by DetroitDon15 » Thu Apr 25, 2013 5:59 pm

Who do you think the Lions will take? I think that Jordan, Jockel, Fisher, and Ziggy will all be gone. I find it hard for the Lions to trade down unless someone wants Geno Smith badly (Jets, maybe?). I think they will take Dee Millner. Fills the biggest need and the Lions can get a guard and rush DE in the second and third rounds.

If we stay at #5, I expect us to take OT Lane Johnson.

If Fisher, Joekel, and Johnson are all off the board by then, I say we draft QB Geno Smith and force a team to trade us their 1st and 2nd for him.

How is CB the biggest need? We have nothing at DE and G at least we have Houston at CB.

I think they trade back or take Ziggy.

Sounds like Fisher is the #1 pick. Maybe there is a prayer of Joeckel falling to us?

I kind of think we need to take Milliner if there.

When you look at our secondary, Houston and Delmas are both good, but we had both last year and had one of the worst secondaries in the league. We added Quin which I love, but I don't think that alone is going to make that big of a difference. I think if we add Milliner too though, our secondary will finally be complete and can be one of the strengths of our defense.

In todays passing NFL you need great pass rushers and great secondary. I think with Suh/Faiurley inside drawing double teams, we are going to have great pressure on the QB no matter who we line up at DE next to them. But we still need to have good coverage in the secondary to complete the puzzle. As both work together. You get pressure up front with bad coverage and the QB can easily still get the ball to open recievers. But if you have great coverage combined with pressure up front, you can dominate on defense.

So I'd go with Milliner if we go defense.

I'm cool with taking an OL too, if its someone that can be great. Because if we can build a dominate OL with all the weapons on offense, we can dominate on offense.

We had Suh and Fairley last year and our DE were still garbage so I don't get that statement.

Milliner is injuries galore. Another injury prone player. Yay?

Given how the board fell, best guy left. Gotta admit Jeff sold me on this guy. The d-line could be crazy in a year or two
