Not the blatant comments that tax dollars will be used and the local economy is hit hard. Got it.

I believe it. I posted the article, FFS.

It is unfortunate to a certain degree, but the cult of Penn State needed to be broken up.

As for the tax part, there is a correction, the "local tax revenue" is from the hit on local businesses.

So you think that would not have happened unless the NCAA rocked them?

While Penn State is one of the prime example of football "cults" I don't really know how you can cheer for the Badgers then. The only thing they're missing is a JoPa figure.

Like I said, I appreciate their opinion...

But I'll believe it when I see it. I still think people will come to the games like they regularly do. Especially for the first 4-5 years I bet they really rally behind the program and support it.

As the team becomes worse, it will probably fall off for a while. You have to realize a lot of these people are fanatical about the team though. They realize the day will come where the team will recover and once again become relevant.

Have you not been paying attention to how people from Penn State have been reacting to all of this? If the NCAA doesn't take away all the scholarships and do a 4 year bowl ban, things would have continued business as usual with the football program.

LOL. Just a tiny little thing like a JoePa figure. LOL.

But I think we're starting to at least admit that a **** of people are getting hit here so that everyone else can feel all warm and fuzzy about the punishment...

(I don't endorse this full article, a radical commentary)

Or maybe people think the football program deserves to be torn apart despite the collateral damage. It is insulting that you think people just want to feel warm and funny about the punishment.

Did you even read the reasoning behind this action?

Except for the fact that their entire staff was gutted, they lost every notable recruit, there still should have been a penalty and not this harsh, and their reputation was still destroyed. It's not like they'd be penciled into a 10-2 season after this.

I'm taking about the fanaticism. I'm saying UW is almost as bad. Almost all of the bar owners on Regent Street make 90% of their income on 7 or 8 Saturdays a year.

Alvarez is revered but I'm not sure he's at the mind controlling/altering state that JoPa's legacy was.

Yeah, I'm sure Wisconsin would look great in the national eye.

We had 60-70% of the state go **** in support of Brett Favre when that stuff happened, some threatening death on Ted Thompson.

I'd guess 70-80% of Wisconsinites believed everything about Braun. That's reverse for the rest of the country.

Yeah, it's just those odd Pennsylvania fanatics.

Even after just losing two big name guys they are still ranked 16th according to ESPNs recruiting rankings.

Rivals has them 14th.

Also, just because we disagree on the punishment shouldn't be an indictment of our character or our views of child molestation, Sandusky, Curley, Schultz, Spanier, or Paterno's actions. I think it's clear we all think child molestation is abhorrent and we all agree that anyone involved in the crime or the cover up should be punished to the fullest extent available by law. But I think reasonable minds can disagree on the fairness and efficacy of the punishment imposed by the the NCAA. T

Penn St. agreed to these sanctions before they were announced and will not be appealing. This wasn't shoved down their throats, so to speak.

I made an earlier post about this, but just because PSU accepted these penalties doesn't mean they weren't imposed on them. There's a concept of duress - the idea that you could force someone to agree to something because of some leverage you have over them. The NCAA had tremendous leverage over PSU - PSU is vulnerable right now as an institution and is already facing tremendous public backlash. That set up the perfect situation for the NCAA - they could unilaterally impose tremendous punishments on PSU without having to offer them an appeals where they would force the NCAA to find binding authority to justify these measures.

4 year death penalty. Wow. That would've slaughtered them. No wonder they agreed to this.

And as for the staff being "gutted," it was going to happen anyway. New coaches often bring in a new staff.

They will still get 100,000+ in attendance for every home game.

That's like getting kicked off the UNLV basketball team. Not an easy feat.

Think "bath salt alternative to marijuana" only with much less odds that synthetic pot will turn you into a zombie cannibal. I know there is a real push to get synthetic marijuana banned in a number of states, but, like bath salts, I don't think that it is all that difficult for companies to stay ahead of the curve and alter the composition just enough that the new blend isn't illegal. On a related note, given that I think the majority of americans on a recent gallop poll actually endorsed the legalization of pot (believe this was the first time ever), I'm not sure if too much time/tax payer money should be wasted on this topic.

Professor John W. Huffman, who first synthesised many of the cannabinoids used in synthetic cannabis, is quoted as saying, "People who use it are idiots."[31] "You don't know what it's going to do to you."[33]

It shouldn't be called cannabis at all. It's just marketed that way for stupid kids to buy it and think they are smokin the ganj legally. So stupid.
