I wonder if this was because Nelson came back? I don't blame Rucci for wanting to be a starter by now.

That would make sense. I believe Rucci only has 2 years of eligibility left so he probably wants to have a chance to go play somewhere

Apparently Rucci was pretty underwhelming when he played.

I do think it's telling he barely played here and that the staff would rather bring back Nelson than roll with Rucci next year despite Nelson struggling this year

This is not related to you or anyone posting about Rucci here, but always one of my favorite genres of college fandom...asking proven coaching staffs why they aren't playing X high-star rated recruit.

"Hey, Chryst...you should play Graham Mertz. Ever heard of him? I followed on rivals.com and he's rated a 5-star recruit. This Coan guy is only 3/4 stars."

Every once in a while, a 4/5 star guy needs a change of scheme or scenery to blossom, but almost every time, whether it's Logan Brown, Rucci, Mertz, Yalden, Essegian (basketball/not highly regarded showed promise as a freshman with massive weaknesses)...people will incessantly ask why these guys don't play. The reason is almost always that they are not very good/not as good as the starter.

In that case, while some fans were clamoring for Stave, he wasn't "highly regarded recruit that I've seen the recruiting ranking of, put him in there." Also, you could argue Andersen was giving the other sect of fans the red meat of "compiled a billion yards in whatever Juco conference exciting transfer" McEvoy over the better QB, Stave.

That was a bit of a failed scheme thing by Andersen who I'd argue was ahead of his time but also stupid in implementation.

Seems so weird to have that position coach in flux.

Man...we're cookin' in the portal of late. Tackett Curtis now in the fold and the Albany DL. Still probably need a few guys on the DL.

Even if you account for Curtis struggling as a true freshman starter who lost his job, that's still a crazy good get. Wow.
