Maybe if his name was Denise instead of Dennis.

I don't know how you guys feel about Chris Simms. I happen to like him. He's not a talking head, guy actually seems to think things through and rationalize his thinking. He had Watson as the 2nd best receiver in this class behind Jameson Williams. Neither of the Ohio State guys made his top 5. Pierce was 3.

I don't begrudge a draft head saying wild stuff to get his name out there, but he's out there. His WR list last year was a couple obvious guys and then dudes who went late and did nothing.

His top 5 last year was:

1. Ja’Marr Chase, LSU
2. DeVonta Smith, Alabama
3. Dyami Brown, UNC
4. Jaylen Waddle, Alabama
5. Kadarius Toney, Florida

Dyami Brown obviously didn't hit year one, but I don't think that list is particularly 'out there.' At least in the two years prior, Parris Campbell and KJ Hamler were is wiffs.

Show me a big, fast guy who catches the ball with his hands and can get in and out of breaks and I'm sold. He seems like he's got all the tools. If he takes to coaching and stays healthy, probably will be a good pickup. Under normal circumstances, I probably wouldn't expect him to play right away, but in our circumstance, I think there's a fair chance he's our best outside receiving threat.

Watson will wear #82.

Obviously what number jersey a player wears has zero impact on how well they'll perform on the field. But I've always been a big aesthetic guy when it comes to stuff like that. Not a fan of that number. Of the available numbers that were available, I think #7 would've fit him better. Or even #87.

best Packer to wear 82 was a defensive end.

The list of 82's for the Packers is underwhelming. I had forgot that Desmond came back to the Packers 3 years after the SB year (Packers cut him 8 games into the '99 season). He wore #81 in the SB, but #82 in his return.

Lionel Aldridge 1964 1971
Jan Barrett 1963 1963
Sanjay Beach 1992 1992
Don Beebe 1996 1997
Ed Bell 1947 1949
Scott Bolton 1988 1988
Jack Cloud 1950 1951
Paul Coffman 1978 1985
Rod Gardner 2005 2005
Derrick Harden 1987 1987
Keith Hartwig 1977 1977
Desmond Howard 1999 1999
Mark Ingram 1995 1995
Reggie Johnson 1994 1994
Charles Jordan 1999 1999
Charles Lee 2000 2001
Brian Manning 1998 1998
Ruvell Martin 2006 2008
Mike Moffitt 1986 1986
David Moore 2021 2021
J'Mon Moore 2018 2018
Keith Paskett 1987 1987
Richard Rodgers 2015 2017
Darrius Shepherd 2020 2020
Ben Steele 2004 2005
Ryan Taylor 2011 2014
Jim Temp 1957 1960
Gerald Tinker 1975 1975
Taco Wallace

Definitely would have preferred him in #87. Say what you will about Alec Pierce, but if you squint hard enough, you can see some Jordy Nelson in Watson’s game as well. Can’t wait to see him blast down the seem or perfect that back shoulder throw with Arod. Hopefully he makes #82 his own and gives us a new number to positively imprint on.

Coffman was pretty decent. Aldridge was a solid player (announcer too)

Packers have a surprisingly small number of retired numbers (less than the Bucks lol).

3- Tony Canadeo
4 - Brett Favre
14- Don Hutson
15 - Bart Starr
66 - Ray Nitschke
92 - Reggie White

#5 (Paul Hornung) is unofficially retired. Lombardi wanted it retired but then he left the team and nothing was done officially. A couple of players have had #5 since but none since 1988.

There are more guys in the Lambeau Field ring of honor whose numbers aren't retired (including Willie Davis). And more in the Packers HOF.

I suppose some of it's logistical. 50-??? guys need numbers every season, so you can't slide too many off the board. Plus, there's 100 years of players to consider. I can't really argue with the list of the (current) retired numbers. Obviously, I never saw Canadeo play, I only remember him as an announcer for a while when I was a young kid.
