PFF breakdown

Position rank 11, big board 75 ,shades of Chris Conley

Watson was your run of the mill 0-star
recruit when he showed up to North Dakota
State. He put on over 20 pounds over the
course of his five-years with the Bison to
become the physical monster you see
today. Despite middling volume stats as a
starter the past three seasons, Watson was
actually insanely productive on a per
opportunity basis. NDSU simply didn't pass a
lot. His 2.95 career yards per route run figure
is one of the highest in the draft class.

PROS
Ø Elite all-around athlete. One of the best predraft testers at the WR position ever.
Ø Incredible flexibility for a 6-foot-4 receiver. Sinks
low at the line and in his breaks.
Ø Easy accelleration combined wtih long strides
makes him a nightmare for corners downfield

CONS
v Fights the ball in the air with ugly drops all over
his tape. Consistent drop issues.
v Doesn't use his size to his advantage. Rare to
see him initiating contact.
Runs routes as they're printed on the playbook.
Doesn't set defenders up.

Most 6-foot-4 receivers struggle mightily to drop their hips at the top of routes to create the
precisicison necessary to gain separation in the NFL. That's not the case with Watson who
explodes in his cuts like a man much smaller.
FLEXIBLE ATHLETICISM

While it's all there physically to be a number one in the NFL, there's still many aspects of the
receiver position where Watson is underdeveloped. He'll be a vertical threat out the gate with
hopefully more in time.
PROJECT X

With a 13.3% career drop rate and 30% career contested catch conversion rate, Watson has left
a lot of yards on the field at the collegiate level. The question becomes, is this something that one
can even improve once they get ot the NFL?

Watson is more athlete than wide receiver at this point. If he becomes well
versed in the latter...look out.

Infrequently post, but heading into day 2, the only thing I was hoping for was what I thought to be an unlikely trade up for my guy Christian Watson. I've seen him play once with Trey Lance, and once last year. Just someone who absolutely looked like a a high schooler amongst pop warner kids. A few people I know who have met him in person just raved about his character. I still have hope Amari Rodgers might pull it together, but I'm certain this is not going to be Amari Rodgers season 1 all over again.

Also, to the post that said shades of Jordy before, I'm in agreement. I'm floored by the possibility of him learning from Rodgers and this coaching staff. Pure win.

That double move hard plant and go on the slant route is pure Jordy. Very excited, This kid is even bigger and more athletic & Jordy was a beast himself at Kansas St. Those jet sweeps are going to be nasty as well.

Toughie... Much depends on Roger's level of trust, but he's said he's on board with developing the young guys (he kinda has to be...).

Rogers trusts Cobb, Lazard, Jones, and has warmed up to Dillon, so between LaFleur called plays and Rogers improvs, they probably get the bulk of the early targets.

Still, if Watson masters the playbook, and he's reported to be smart, that will help. A big plus, with Watson's speed, and he gets behind defenders he may well rack up some long plays. Another potential plus, if he gets used on jet sweeps or reverses, he could also rack up some big yards
