Our last 5 WR's taken in the 2nd round: Jennings, Nelson, Cobb, Adams, Watson
Guess that's our sweet spot

The draft position is far more important. This isn’t the NBA or MLB for trades.

No chance. If they lost this game they would currently have the 3rd pick. They are currently 13th.
Fair enough, I think I’m even more irritated that they’ll probably continue to trot out Rodgers after the bye in some misguided attempt to “run the table”. Need Love to get some snaps.

The most concerned I've been with Watson was the Detroit game where I thought he had a second concussion in two weeks. That's the kind of thing that can **** a career, plus it was looking like he was getting hurt every time he took a hit.Dennis Reynolds wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:So is availability. The dreadful season we're having contributed to a lot of criticism imo. No one would care as much if we were heading to another 12-13 win season. The fact we traded Adams just added more fuel. I usually just bash the GM when rookies look bad.
Of all the high picks Quay concerns me the most with Wyatt a close second.

But the NFL draft is very different from the NBA draft. It's less obvious whom you should draft and you don't have the same restricted free agency rules that make it easier to retain talent. Football is more about scouting than it is about getting high picks, and it's not as easy for one top-5 pick to come in and completely turn a franchise around.
Of course draft position helps, but if Rodgers plays well and they're able to trade him for several picks, that could easily make up some of the difference. There's a reason tanking isn't nearly as much of an issue in the NFL as it is in the NBA.

I’d take explosive TDs by Watson over tanking every time. Draft position < development of draft picks.

The reason tanking isn’t a thing in the NFLis because it’s not really a game you can play soft or expect players to not give their all. Only way you can manipulate it is fake injuries to guys.

Don't forget that most NFL contracts are not guaranteed, so the players really have to play well every season and all season long, it's not like NBA. Careers are shorter too, so they have to maximize their gains.

For some Packer fans beating the Bears twice every year makes it a successful season, so for them congratulations.
For the rest of us, man that is a really awful team down in Chicago.
Pack won the TO battle 3-0, Bears missed an extra point, and had a FG blocked and GB was still behind until late in the 4th quarter.
The defense also gave up over 409 yards to Chicago.
Whatever.

We should have drafted George Pickens over Watson.

Yep, this is why I wanted Love to play. If it was Love to Watson for a couple of connections and we win, then great.
As much as I would love a top 5 pick, it is more important that our picks continue to develop.
Also, Quay had some great tackles on Fields today. For as many mistakes as Quay makes, he makes at least 2-3 amazing plays per game. Fans can keep sleeping on him if they want to. For a rookie starting at ILB, Quay looks good.

He never looked like a bust. He was injured too often to look like a bust.paulpressey25 wrote:Trying to comprehend how Watson looked like a bust to the next Jerry Rice in a matter of 30 days.

MFing MFers can't lose a game when they need to lose a game, after proving they can't win a game when they need to win one.
A few of the other 4-win teams won this weekend, so we had a chance to solidify a better draft pick, but no. And of course, this is on coaching/management, not on the players, who should be playing to the best of their ability.

They're not mutually exclusive. Players can develop during losses, too.

Pickens has done fine this year, so I don't know why you think this is funny. Either player could have the better career, and we won't know for a few years who that will be.

There are lots of reasons. There's also a little more parity in the NFL thanks to the hard cap, so bad teams aren't as hopeless without high picks as they are in the NBA.

At this point in the season, half the players have some minor injury.

Moving up 4 picks means your draft capital has increased about as much as a mid 2nd-round pick. Also, it improves your chances to get a beast at your pick--or you can trade down, because there's always some team coveting a specific player, and get more rolls of the dice.
