2023 Draft Recap and 3 Years Too Early Poll

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Sat Apr 29, 2023 10:52 pm

We'll laugh in a year or two about how bad some of these picks turned out to be, most likely one or two inthr top half of our picks. But as of right now I love this draft. A lot of these guys could make the team.

Lukas Van Ness
Luke Musgrave
Jayden Reed
Tucker Kraft
Colby Wooden
Sean Clifford
Dontayvion Wicks
Carl Brooks
Anders Carlson
Carrington Valentine
Lew Nichols III
Anthony Johnson Jr.
Grant DuBose
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

This is the 2nd year in a row where I think Gute absolutely killed it on day 3(outside of the Clifford pick). But Wooden, Wicks, Brooks, Valentine, Nichols III, Johnson Jr., & Dubose I think all have a chance to make an impact on this team. Today was a ton of fun

I give it a B+. Several very solid choices (on paper), a couple of ennnnhhhhnn I dunnos. At the top of the list, you can make a good case for Van Ness being both a BPA and a position of need. I like both TE's, and I can be talked into Reed being a good choice too.

As an utterly unrelated aside, The names of our draftees sound like the cast of characters from a Nero Wolfe mystery tale.

Considering how much they loaded up on WRs too, Doubs and Toure better come to camp with their "A" games tuned up. I realize rounds 5-7 picks are likely considered for ST's, but they're also going to get a serious look for the Offense too.,

Figure a couple of these guys will show some promise and then get "injured" in camp or preseason game and we can stash them for a year on IL.

I voted A, I absolutely love this class for the most part. Van Ness I think will become a true star as an edge rusher. Musgrave & Kraft is the exact sort of plan I had hoped to see for the TE need, Wooden while I don't think he'll ever develop into a full time starter I think will have a role for a long time, Wicks I think is a pick in the Doubs mold from last season where it wouldn't surprise me if he ends the season as a starter, Brooks is in the Enagbare mold to me where in r6 you just can't pass up his level of production, and the 4 7th rounders to me all have the physical traits to develop into legit contributors and if not they all should be able to compete for ST snaps.

I didn't love the Reed or Carlson picks but I can at least see the vision on them so I won't hate on them too much

Clifford is the one pick I despise but if a 5th round pick is the only one I truly hate that's a pretty good draft

Overall they took a bunch of young athletic freaks at positions of need. I'm very happy

The only way to judge a draft this early is to ask yourself how hard it was to convince yourself each pick was a good one. My average mental gymnastics score is only about a 3 or 4 out of 10 in this draft, and even that is only because Clifford's 10/10 skewed the average, which probably means he's the next Tom Brady.
Wut we've got here is... faaailure... to communakate.

This was the best part. I did the work ahead of time on a lot of these guys and they took guys I really liked. Felt very rewarding, now I just hope it actually works out

LVN vs. JSN
Reed over Mims and the TEN guys
Not trading up a bit in the 2nd to get Mayer or Mingo

Those are the key decision points on which this draft will be judged in the future.

That's still pretty insane to not draft a single OL. Especially when you have 13 picks.

Good draft, would have taken JSN at 13 though.

B.

I am usually pretty harsh. A ratings usually only come if we get a hall of great or famer.

Honestly want some splashy guy in the 1st one of these years. Especially at WR or RB
