Unfortunately the Packers have no cap room on the horizon. It's going to be bad for a few more years.

How is that possible, Rodgers can't be on the books anymore right? That frees up like $40 mill doesn't it? Is it just escalating contracts?

It's all of their contracts. Gute is always adding void years and it means they're pushing money out every year. The bill always come due.

The last few years of "all in" involved a bunch of kicking the can down the road. Its pretty common in the NFL for teams when they're trying to capitalize on a competitive window.

We'll finally be able to get off that god awful Bakhtiari contract at least

In a few years?

You think we're gonna keep him next year? I think we cut him and eat the dead cap but save $20 million

There's some sort of rule about not being able to cut him while he's injured unless he agrees to an injury settlement. In other words, depending on his health, they could owe him his entire remaining contract amount, and not just the dead cap amount that they would normally owe if he were released while healthy or traded.

I'm not sure how it's determined whether he's actually injured or not. It would seem that he has little incentive to try to return to the team. If he says he's healthy enough to play, then that means they can cut him and save $20m. If he says he's not healthy enough to play, it sounds like it could get messy. I'm not sure I fully understand this rule though.

We'd save about $21 million cutting Bakh ($19 dead cap vs $40 million cap) but if he's injured you'd have to negotiate something. Cutting Jones saves about $5 million ($12 million vs. $17 million) but I think they'll try to work something out to bring him back.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

And what would be his incentive to negotiate? Maybe save the Packers a couple million and make up the difference plus a couple extra million by signing on with the Jets, with the mutual hope of being ready to play before they're out of the playoff race again?

Well he's good for one game a year. I'm sure there's a window there to cut him lol

It was ugly at times but it felt like Green Bay was the better team by far today. Jordan Love absolutely balled out outside of the fumble & Matt Lafleur led this incredibly young team to the playoffs. It's hard not to be excited about what the future might hold for the Lafleur/Love combo. Onto Dallas!
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Really, really have to hope the Bears do something incredibly stupid and pass on a QB in April.

"Green Bay's down years is .500, our down years is the first pick" is such a great own-goal quote.

Trade Fields, draft Caleb and reset the QB contract clock.
