Colts sign veteran K, Matt Stover

Post#1 » by Latrell » Wed Oct 14, 2009 10:49 pm

from colts.com

The Indianapolis Colts want Adam Vinatieri at full strength later this season, one to two months from now. Until then, they're content using another veteran kicker, Matt Stover.

I didnt realize Adams injury was so serious.....Stover is solid though, good pickup

Does he still have a strong enough leg?

Stover tops out at about 45 yards now, but he's still got great accuracy from that range on in.

Vinatieri had knee surgery this week

Stover can't be any less accurate that Adam has been this season. Any time he took the field with any FG outside of about 30 yards I get a little uneasy these days. Hopefully the surgery helps him, because he was quickly becoming a pretty average K.

I was uneasy with Adam, period. I'm remembering a certain game against San Diego.

Either way, our offense is getting into the endzone, so our kicking game is a nice non-factor.

Good point, I just would hate to see us in a nail biter against say... New England, and Vinatieri chokes and shanks one from 40. I think Stover is going to fill in admirably, but I honestly don't see why we haven't given McAfee a look since he was a K before and has a monstrous leg on him.

Vinatieri is usually very solid in the clutch with only a few exceptions...There are maybe 2 guys Id take over him right now(in the clutch)
