2024 off season thread

Post#1 » by hermes » Fri Feb 23, 2024 2:25 am

alright worm, qb is the big question mark

what do you want them to do?
and what do think they will end up doing?

i want them to bring cousins back, and i think they will

and draft a qb to build around in the 2nd or 3rd round. whoever that o'connell feels good about that isn't in the first tier

This is a tough question. I want them to bring Cousins back. I also want them to get the best QB possible in the draft. The problem is that these two ideas somewhat conflict in that if Cousins comes back, it probably makes more sense to use draft capital to solidify the team around him. That being said, we can't keep postponing acquiring the QB of the future and there should be some quality QB's available in the first or 2nd rounds.

mattison released

for the best i'd say, he was a good back up but never really took the next step when they gave him the chance

For sure, he didn't look at all like a feature back last season.

got any veteran qbs out there you like if they don't bring cousins back?

dan barreiro was making a pitch for justin fields today. just get him for a year (don't pick up the 5th year option) at only $1.6m while you groom a rookie for the following year. very little risk while you can use some more money to fill holes on defense.

they also kind of put the idea in my head that, without kirk, the team probably won't be very good next year. which i don't think i'm really ready for. we've been at least decent for quite a while now

The problem is that you have to trade for Justin Fields. If he’s cheap enough maybe, but I’m not looking to give up a lot of draft capital for a stop gap. I can’t imagine giving up more than a 4th or 5th for a guy who is just keeping the seat warm for a rookie.
There could be a couple guys in the same mold like Mac Jones or Desmond Ridder that might be available for cheaper than Fields.
Then of course there is Russell Wilson who might be willing to sign a 1 year contract. I don’t know though.

johnathan greenard in (and hunter probably out), 4 years $76m (42m guaranteed)

most interesting to me is that this happened this early. vikings typically don't make big, early splashes in free agency

I remember him as a Gopher, I didn’t know he was doing well as a pro.

The Vikings traded up for the 23rd pick. Now the question is whether going to package the 11 and 23 to move up and pick one of the top quarterbacks. Or maybe they were just looking to position themselves for Nix/Penix?

wow

allow themselves to be in play for all opportunities. if there is a chance to move up and grab a top guy, they can. if no chance there, they can stay and grab a guy who falls (and pick up another good player)
