we won! woooooooooooo! rudolph had a great game. good defense - detroit didn't score a touchdown in either game against us!

i was in a sports bar for lunch in rural iowa for part of it, when the hail mary happened there was a mild, stifled cheer and then some polite applause - it was a fairly older crowd for the most part

down to the simplest scenario - win and you are in

13-3 down to 8-6-1 with one game left against the 11-4 division leading Bears. The Bears were 5-11 last season. Kendricks, Ham, Sherels listed as probably out. Maybe even Rhodes yet.

HC says. Limit Turnovers #1 issue. Then fast defensive start. Then Blocks on special teams. haha

Another afternoon game. What have they had this year, maybe one noon game? Vikings players need their mid afternoon nap when these 3-4 o'clock games begin. Hopefully it is running time by the third quarter.

I'm bothering to watch this Chicago game because of the storyline. So Vikings get stomped by Philly last season in the championship game. That was after they had a chance at homefield championship and Superbowl trip stripped from them. So Today, they have the chance to repay those favors this year by keeping Philly out of the playoffs with a win today against Bears.

What is your guess for how they start this one off? Big defensive stand on first drive? Naw. Oh wells. I'll give em a chance the rest of the game and let's see how gutless these guys are or aren't.

So the first three drives, classic start for our conservative Zimmer Vikings.

Drive 1: 3 plays, 3 yards ( 3.4 avg run yards | 1 yard avg pass attempt classic start)
Drive 2: 3 plays, 1 yard
Drive 3: 3 plays, 7 yards

Down 7-0

Updating now:

Drive 4: 3 plays -9 yards. Passes still in the 2 yard range. Zimmer hoping defense can hold Chicago down all game...

Bears getting good running room. Something called Mitch Tribisky has throws of 9 and 22 yards. Vikings haven't attempted a pass to any targets beyond 2 yards yet.

Kearse is the only defender who can stop a rusher.

Defense made another nice stand and were about to force a punt when a completely phantom roughing the passer penalty flies for a free first down for Chicago. No home brew today.

Bears absolutely not conservative today. Around 40 yardline in Vikings territory Mitch launches one which is caught in the endzone for a TD.

See how this works Zimmer? They only had a 7 pt lead. They take advantage of a rotten penalty call on Vikings and get after that score! I suppose we'll find out if Zimmer feels it is time yet to open up the passing game bottle or not?

Down 14 to Bears now. This isn't your father's Vikings offense. This is a problem of this era.

7 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter and we have a total of 2 yards. What a freaking joke.

This is usually when Zimmer finally starts to let them run routes past 2 yards and let Cousins start throwing again. A good 14 pt deficit cracks the egg. We'll see. This is critical pressure now though and this is where turnovers can ruin your day. Absolutely gotta love how Zimmer likes to get his team into these pressure cookers.

Just wait for that grind it out offense to really kick in. Oh it's going to be a glorious site to behold...

The funny thing is, Zim wants this grind it out offense to help his defense. The thing is, it's putting the defense in a much worse situation than before. Bad field position and 0 time to catch a break on the sideline.

You're correct! He wants it this way. He holds this offense back so badly it should be a crime.

90 million dollar quarterback, 2 top 10 receivers, a good pass catching tight end, a RB that can catch it out of the backfield.

Ya screw an aggressive pass attack, let's just grind out 3 and outs on offense instead.

I get it, we have a bad O line. But it's not the worst one in the league, there are teams with worse O lines that can still throw the ball. Plus it's not like they're a bad pass protecting line but good run protecting line. I actually think they're worse at run blocking than pass blocking.

Drive 6: 8 plays 37 yards --> Field Goal. Now down 13-3. Most yards so far might have come from a penalty on Bears.

Again you are exactly right. The only reason it plays out like this is because Zimmer chooses for it to start like this. Once he uncorks it they have no trouble moving the ball. The problem with his way is if the score gets away from you before you uncork it, any kind of turnover at that point will kill your chances. Where as if they faught aggressively like Chicago has from the start, normal turnovers aren't a big deal. Now under pressure in the second half hopefully they can avoid a turnover while trying to catch up from a two touchdown deficit.

Oh how amazing... Under 2 minutes left and now the chains are moving, passes going past 10 yards even. HAHA Zimmer you should be fired for wasting all our seasons .

First deeper shot to Thielen, maybe first throw to Thielen today, and first deep shot all day. Could have been a nice play but Defender tears Thielen's head off for a penalty. Moving chains works. Somebody uncorked it.

Just a random update. Daniel Carlson with 2 more Fgs this week. He has been a 90% FG kicker for Oakland.

It's crazy, its almost like Zimmer should've been a little patient and actually tried giving his rookie kicker some confidence, instead of throwing him under the bus whenever he got a chance and kept adding pressure on him.

We waisted a 5th round pick on a kicker. Then cut the kicker after 2 weeks. Then that kicker has become a good kicker. What a complete waste of a pick.
