Pacers Summer League

Post#1 » by glasket » Tue Jun 28, 2016 3:35 am

Haven't yet seen a thread.
I'm assuming The following play
Myles Turner
Joe Young
Georges Niang

Also hear Stephen Hicks and Armani Moore will be on the team but don't know either of them.

Any other news and thoughts can be discussed here I guess.

The roster is here http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/pacers-announce-rookie/free-agent-camp-roster

Popeye will coach which is a change from Burke in past years. A few names are familiar from workouts. a few played for the Ants.

Sorry, about that. I was going to make a thread but I'm on vacation in South Carolina.

Turner won't play but I'm interested to see how Whittington and Niang will play. I don't see anyone else that stands out except for Scotty Hopson. He could be an interesting look.

Also, Nate Wolters is on the team. If we don't have Lawson back, I'd like to see him as a possible back up or 3rd point guard depending on how Young develops.

First game is Saturday against the Orlando Blue team. Hopefully I can post info later.

I noticed Wolters too. Also a few guys from big-name programs. But most are wanna be Ants.

I've got all of the games set to record. Hope the guys who were on last year's roster dominate.

Will the summer league games be shown on NBA league pass or somewhere where they can be watched (from Australia)

I don't know most of the players from the NCAA except for Julian Jacobs. This should be a competitive unit with Young and Robinson assuming leadership roles.

I saw a quote by Niang that he was going to be a play-making four man. I honestly would prefer to maybe see those five split up throughout most of the game and allow them to be the focal points when they are out on the floor. Let them close the game together then.

That puts Niang at 3. Another wing should start.

An awful lot of slow in that frontcourt.

I would let Niang come off the bench to be a focal point of the second unit. Then have this as the closing 5.

I think one of Shayne and Rakeem could start but not both. I figure they'll want to give Niang a shot at the 4 and let Shayne and Rak compete at 5. I have GRob penciled in on the wing but who is the other starting wing? I see Monteith has a nice piece online on Wolters so maybe he starts with Young in the back court unless there's a 3 they want to look at. I'll be cheering for Wolters. He makes a lot of sense as the 13th or 14th man if he shows well in Orlando.

Up 20 in the Magic right now. Young looks really good, 4/4 from three and looks very comfortable. Christmas has hit some long 2s which could be huge for his development.

Niang has been great too. Outrebounded the entire Magic team during his 8 minutes in the first quarter (7 boards), hit some shots, and had some nice assists. Looks like he really could be a decent rotation guy.

Wolters started at two. Niang at four.

Joe Young looks poised to have a bigger impact this season, looking forward to watching him develop.

Young and Niang looked pretty good. I know its one game but I got the impression that Niang can play a few mins this season similar to what Kevin Pritchard stated after the draft. Additionally Robinson looked pretty good.

Joe Young hit everything yesterday and did nothing today. Niang needs to learn what he can't get away with at this level. Defenders are better. GRob can easily get shots but isn't making enough of them.

Now they're saying Young was limited by bruise from yesterday's fall. He may sit game three.

High BBIQ and good passing skills is nice and all, but Niang sure seems to suffer from the same disease as all of our players: shaky ballhandling skills that lead to stupid turnovers.

I think he'll make the cut though, while some others won't. Then again, its' Larry Bird, anything can be expected :P
