Oshae Brissett signs with Boston to two-year deal

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Mon Jun 12, 2023 4:50 am

Pending free agent Oshae Brissett. Last season, he made $1.8 million.

This was his third season with the Pacers and had his worst season.

Games- 65 (2 starts)
Minutes- 16.7 min/game
Points- 6.1 ppg
Rebounds- 3.4 rpg
3PT - 31%

All lowest in his three seasons with the Pacers.

It's probably time for the Pacers and Brissett to go their separate ways?

I can’t imagine he or his agent are interested in returning with the roster as is. He’ll likely be looking for a role where he can get consistent minutes as a 2nd forward off the bench. I think his career will look a lot like Torrey Craig’s when all is said and done.

I think he's already exceeded expectations scouts had for him out of college. I live near Syracuse, and nobody here thought he was a NBA player. So you're probably right, he will want a change of scenery and somewhere where he can play a bit more.

I agree that we will let Brissett find another team. I believe that Jordan Nwora inherits his minutes because he is an upgrade over Brissett, same age, 2” taller, and a more consistent offensive threat.

He needs to go to a Charlotte or some team where he can play.

What to do with him? Not much.

The guy is the size and position we need most. Yet he still couldn't find his way on the floor. He just isn't good enough.

Probably should bring him back on the cheap. Let him learn from a veteran player at the forward position. Team probably has too many young players. A player like Harrison Barnes could bring a wealth of knowledge to help him improve. Position Depth will be necessary at the 3-4. He's probably better than a couple of other guys being hoarded here. If the team drafts a forward at 7 and uses cap space to add another forward; the rotation could be solid at a weaker position from last year.

There’s 12 guys under contract for next year. 3 1st round picks coming in. The team has already implied they’d like to bring George Hill or James Johnson back for leadership. They also need to spend some money to get to the salary floor. I just don’t see a roster spot to even bring Oshae back if we wanted to.

I also don’t think Oshae and his agent will want him back. He’s exactly what we need, and for two Carlisle seasons, we’ve seen Rick do everything possible to not play him, including playing Nesmith/Buddy at the 4. I just wouldn’t want my guys big chance to be locking himself in deep on a bench or to get cut in camp.

Does it seem that Carlisle has a habit of doing that? To me, he appears to get a thorn in his butt about some players, and they just don't get a decent chance.

Maybe. Most coaches usually do that. O'Brien wouldn't play Paul George. Some coaches won't play rookies. Some players aren't talented enough to overcome "insert reason here".

Brissett is a known quantity at this point. He's decent enough to be a 3rd string energy guy, but probably not much more than that. I think that's the reason why the PF minutes went to Nesmith and Nwora. Makes more sense to give developmental playing time to Nesmith and Nwora

He's signing in Boston at the minimum with team option second year

Player option on the second year. Good for him.

Hope he gets a chance at regular, predictable minutes. Would like to see him do well.
