Week 15 - Green Bay @ Oakland - Dec 20
Keys to the Game
CWood and James Jones - Aiming for the throat!
This one has been circled for awhile for James Jones. He was shocked when the Raiders decided to cut him after he led the team in receiving last year, his one and only year away from the Packers. He started out the year on fire showing the world that he still was a force but has been very quiet as of late. You can be certain however that he will be motivated to make some noise against his former team though.
Charles Woodson was in the same boat after the Packers decided not to re-sign him a couple of years back thinking that he was too old for the position. They were wrong, and the Raiders have been ecstatic with the play of the ageless wonder ever since. Woodson is the type of super competitive champion that will hold slights against those who have wronged him, and no team wronged him more than the Packers when they decided he wasn't in their plans anymore.
We need the Front 7 to show up!
We were all impressed with the game that Mack and the Attack pit together vs the outmatched Den oline last week. They will need to bring that and more vs A.Rod and the Cheeseheads. It's no secret that our secondary has had ups and downs. We need consistent pressure on the former MVP to keep the game manageable. Aaron like to spread you out and pick you apart with combo routes so Mack, Edwards, Autry, Mayowa and Heeney will see the field a ton in passing sets. Uses stunts and combo pass rush moves will be important vs this crafty QB. The good new is the GB Oline is beat up as every member of the starting squad showed up on the injury report but will all play. We need to not only dominate them with our newly found vaulted pass rush but we also need Big Dan, Jelly and Malcom Smith to lead the way stopping their two headed run attack. Eddie Lacy is a load and runs with power and purpose and James Starks is no slouch himself. In their last 8 games it's an easy pattern to follow that when they run the ball well they win. We want the W today so we must win upfront.
Capers vs Musgrave
These two coaches know each other extremely well from battling each other when Bill Musgrave was with Green Bay's divisional rival Minnesota Vikings. That means that it will take some extra creativity from both sides to combat what they know the other coach is planning on throwing at them.
Hopefully for the Raiders that means a more aggressive Bill Musgrave, because the short screen passes and quick throws are a staple of what Musgrave did with the Vikings and will be very much expected by Dom Capers. That hopefully will open up the deep ball more often though because Capers will have made sure that the Packers watch for the short, quick developing plays more so than the deep ball.
Jon Feliciano gets his first start
With the season near it's end, it's time to start seeing what we have with some young player going into the offseason. One that has been very quiet in terms of snaps recently is the Raiders 4th round selection this year, Jon Feliciano. He has been on the active roster almost all season but dress on game day rarely with the Oline mostly set and veterans entrench in front of him. With RT Austin Howards injury and IR trip this past week tho, an opportunity has presented it's self for the front office and coaching staff to get an extended look at Feli vs real competition. We will all be eager to see how he fairs. Even tho he is a rookie and missteps should be expected, the bar has been set high recently by outstanding rookie production all over the roster. Here to hoping Feli is another early success story.
Weather!
Once again the Raiders will be playing in some sloppy conditions it appears as it is scheduled to shower throughout the day in Oakland. Hopefully the tarp is out on the field til warm-up time to keep the dirt somewhat together but you can be sure that by half time it will be a mess in the middle of the field. We seen a # of slips and unsure footing issue last home game even on the turf so the wet weather will make it even more tenuous situation cutting and chasing offense player who know where they are going. The team that handles the conditions the best will most likely come away with the decided advantage. One thing is for sure, there should be no clean unis after this one.

Re: Week 15 - Green Bay @ Oakland - Dec 20
Green Bay has been up and down but I'm imagining it will be a tough one. Teddy Bruschi predicts a Raiders win... I think that would be a first for the Raiders in Oakland vs. GB (I still remember that slaughter after Favre's father's death.)
D-Line should be ready to go - I sat next to them Friday night devouring churrascaria in Oakland. Eight or nine of them, including big Dan Williams, Jelly Ellis, Denico Autry, and some other guys I didn't immediately recognize. All defensive guys, no dates, family or anything. There was a white guy with them, who might that be? Short hair (not Heeney), built like a safety or maybe a pass rusher.

Ugh, only a FG D# has to generate a turnover here to get us back in the game ASAP, imo!

Carr's gotta fight the regression, fatigue etc. etc.
Whatever it is. He's gotta fight it.
D is playing well today. Hopefully he steps up after the 2 blunders and gives us a shot to win.

I much prefer the playcalling from prior weeks, but we're getting hung up in the red zone.

D has come to play.
Any word on MEJ?
Come on Carr and Musgrave.
Pick your defense up here.
Punch this in for 6.
