Brewers make small trade.

Post#1 » by Nowak008 » Sat May 5, 2007 8:00 am

I noticed it at the bottom of the game notes from ESPN.

The Brewers traded C JD Closser to Oakland for outfielder Charles Thomas. Closser was playing at Triple-A Nashville while Thomas was at Triple-A Sacramento. Thomas was assigned to Nashville.

I can't see any use for Thomas.

catchers are always valuable. Can't really see how this move makes sense, oh well, I trust Melvin to know more than I do.

Weird. An outfielder is the last thing we need.

This was probably just a favor to another GM. A triple A team probably needed a C because of some injury and Melvin helped him out.

actually Thomas broke in with I think ATL and started off really well. Could just mean depth for us. Now that our best catching prospect is now again healthy. Closser would have ad to take a demotion to AA which I dont think he would have done...

No he wouldn't have. Salome is playing in A ball.

Powell said that the reason for the trade was to get Rotino more time behind the plate.

1) Wanted to get Rottino more time behind the plate.
2) Melvin said he wouldn't block Closser if he could have an opportunity elsewhere. Oakland, due to injuries, had a need for a catcher.
3) AAA needed an OF I believe.
