What happens now?

Post#1 » by m23uza1hem36 » Mon Jan 19, 2009 7:32 pm

Note able players whose contract expire;
Running back's Correll Buckhalter & Ryan Moats.
Tight end L.J Smith, offensive lineman's Jon Runyan & Tra Thomas.
Defensive back Brian Dawkins.

I expect Dawkins/Runyan/Buckhalter to be a lock to coming back.

There are a couple of good wide receivers that will be available, not that really pop out, here"s a list of the top receivers,

Bobby Engram Seattle Seahawks
Jabar Gaffney New England Patriots
Dante' Hall St. Louis Rams
Devery Henderson New Orleans Saints
T.J. Houshmandzadeh Cincinnati Bengals
Sam Hurd Dallas Cowboys
Brandon Jones Tennessee Titans
Ashley Lelie San Francisco 49ers
Shaun McDonald Detroit Lions
Koren Robinson Green Bay Packers
Amani Toomer New York Giants
Roydell Williams Tennessee Titans
Cedrick Wilson Pittsburgh Steelers

I think we could always get better defensively and need to trade for a WR or sign even two from free agency (preferably Shaun McDonald and Amani Toomer) which I doubt would happen.

I expect one if not both tackles to be back..even at least for a year..!!
Dawkins should be back..
I hope Buckhalter is back..Im not sure as there are grumblings that he wants a bigger role (which i think is justified..but I just do not know if we can offer him that..)
I hope we get a young RB in the draft to take the reigns of Westbrook and learn from him ..(this is ofcourse taking to account that booker will amount to nothing..)
I do not want any of those receivers..we have enough tier 2 and tier 3 receivers..What we need is a tier 1..either try and get the likes of ocho cinco, Tory Holt, Boldin or even Tony Gonzalez..or dont bother...
On D....I think we are fine..But If Julius Peppers is showing interest to come here..you would have to look into it!

^^
I agree if Julius Peppers would come, we better hook & bring him in.

I also believe we need a super star receiver, a go-to-guy that we have not had since Owens frankly, DeSean has been a nice "1st tier guy" but he's to small to be a superstar for us.

Unlike other running backs, even though Westbrook's now hit 30, I think he still has a lot left in him but we do need someone who could take away some touches effectively.

I wouldn't touch any of those WR's with a 10 foot pole. They offer no upgrade.

Potential upgrades to our WR corps

Anquan Boldin - a TRUE #1 with ability to generate YAC - makes everyone better

Lance Moore - RFA - really good route runner with a nose for the endzone - twice the player Housh will be going forward

Malcom Floyd - RFA - physically a very big WR - offers a red zone threat - an upgrade over Baskett? (could be just 50/50)

Runyan won't be back next year. He had a surgery. He will be out for 4 to 6 months. You know how the Eagles deal with older players like Runyan.

I will miss Runyan very much when he is gone. He has been great for us. It wont feel right not seeing him in the game at the tackle position.
