Agree. Lynch must feel that the guys left at this stage of the draft would struggle to just make the team and/or are not upgrades over Harris, Johnson, Verrett or Reed. So either the coaching staff has seen something from Harris to warrant the praise from Lynch or there is a FA out there that they are targeting.

Pro Football Focus considered Woerner as "one of the best and most devastating run blockers" in this draft class. Someone like that with good hands should be able to help us.

We drafted WR Jauan Jennings. A big 6-3 guy known for physicality and willing to run people over after the catch.

Samurai wrote:Woerner's scouting report:

The good:
Good size and athleticism
Good hands
Very good perimeter blocker
Versatile (played H-back, end of line, outside, slot)

The not so good:
Goes down fairly easily on first contact
Not used much in passing game
Can get rag-dolled by strong edge rushers

He wasn't an every down player but we aren't counting on him to do that. If he has good hands and is a good blocker, sounds like he has the potential to be the upgrade over Dwelley that we were looking for to back-up Kittle.

We should have drafted Hunter Bryant instead.

I’m the resident Vols fan on here so hip hip hooray. Jennings is a junk yard dog. Physical and clutch. Always made tough catches. He is slow as hell though so that will hurt his chances.

I’ll also add he’s been a head case. Kind of surprised that didn’t scare us off haha.

PFF loved Jennings, but dropped him because of his lack of physical tools. He could find a role, especially if Hurd doesn't pan out. Odds are he's a practice squad guy this year, though.

Jennings had the second slowest 40 time among WR's at the Combine (4.72) although one scout noted that his game speed is better than his timed speed. He also had the 2nd lowest high jump at 29 inches. He broke 30 tackled on only 59 catches last season to lead all WR's in that category. His balance and ability to slip defenders is considered second to none. It is clear that Shanny loves guys who can pick up big chunks of yards after the catch. Shanahan is a master of scheming guys open but once they catch the ball, it is up to the player to do something after the catch.

McKivitz looked better at guard than tackle in those ESPN clips. I think one of the youtube channels has those 1 v 1 practices from the Sr. Bowl, so may take a look later.

Woerner is a pure blocking TE, which was something I knew they'd be looking for after losing Toilolo and Celek.

We drafted two of my least favorite WRs in this entire class. Unbelievable. If we add K.J. Hill, we could make it 3 for 3.

Loading up on offense in this draft. I don't have a huge problem with that, but next year is going to have to be basically all defensive backs....

I think Woerner can be a sneaky pass catcher. Certainly an upgrade from Toilolo who moved like a tree.

Maybe potentially converts to TE?

Eno Benjamin picked by Arizona. ASU kid stays in-state. Surprised he fell this far.

That’s exactly why I don’t like him. I can tolerate the sh8tty attitude but it’s a trade off for the overall talent. I like the fact that he used to play QB for y’all and didn’t mind making a position switch.

Perhaps, although the injury questions surrounding Taylor and Hurd have to be considered. He could also carve out a role on special teams covering kicks. Interesting tidbit is that CeeDee Lamb was second in the nation by forcing a missed tackle on 42% of his catches. Who was number one? Jennings at 51%. With Deebo, Aiyuk, Kittle and now Jennings, this team could be the best YAC team in the league.

I think anybody drafted in the 5th round is a big maybe

While that's true in general, I think drafting a guy based on a sample size of one game played is a much bigger "maybe" than typical. He must have looked unbelievably good in that one game, so good that his college coach didn't put him back at that position.

I'm late to this, but read it earlier and felt compelled to respond. College OTs switching to OG in the pros is incredibly common. Tackle is the much more important position, so college coaches want their best players there, generally speaking. But many guys who end up at tackle in college don't have the athleticism to play there in the pros, so they kick inside. The fact that his coach didn't keep him at guard means that he was better than anything else that they had at tackle, not that he wasn't a good guard.

As far as pulling, that doesn't require the same type of athleticism as kick-sliding to block a Von Miller or Khalil Mack around the edge.
