I haven't done a real deep dive into the prospects this year, but this draft is absolutely stacked with offensive lineman. There are quite a few guys who can play both Tackle & Guard. This is the perfect time to go all in on the OL.

I did a way too early mock draft and then deep dive on WR Malachi Corley known as YAC God... extremely hard to tackle and shifty WR 5'11" 210... not a position of need beyond depth but interesting prospect.

btw Penix has been pretty consistently slotted around pick 40, we could easily trade up to that I would think. too bad Jamal Adams wouldn't even get us a 2nd at this point.

This guy is a bigger, more badass Creed Humphrey.

good call on Latu

I'm trying to remember the last guard we took early and I was stoked on... looking at history it's really just Steve Hutchinson minus his exit. I think Beebe or Mohagany will be around later.

My sleeper faves:
S- Beau Bade violent but can hang deep in addition to filling the box.
S-James Williams from miami 6'5" 236lbs freak ala Kam Chancellor who fits in the switchable defensive scheme
LB- Cedrick Gray
G-Christian Mohagany (later rounds)

I have to checkout Mohagany. Beebe will probably go somewhere in Round 2-3.

I liked Williams too. I was watching film on Kinchens as well. But Williams could be a candidate in the 3rd round.

Junior Colson (LB Michigan) would be a fit. The injury to Zak Zinter could push him down the board. It will be fascinating to see how many guys from Michigan & UW become targets with the new staff in place.

well it's 2024 and I work with AI so... might at well do some fun with AI.

I'll build a better prompt system and load it's brain with data later but my first late night meh prompt and reply for both Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing.

"examine the 2023 draft combine and the players that had some of the best athletic performances. Look at the first three rounds of the draft and of those players mentioned as having a very good combine workout and numbers. After examining that research how they did during their rookie season. Tell me if most of the great workouts had good years, bad years, and who was thought to have a good combine that had a good rookie season"

reply (gemini)
Examining the connection between 2023 Combine performance and rookie season success
It's important to understand that athletic performance at the Combine is just one factor in a player's success, and a good workout doesn't guarantee a good rookie season.

Here's what we can find:

Players mentioned as having exceptional workouts:

Anthony Richardson (QB, Florida): He had the second-fastest 40-yard dash for a QB ever and impressive jumps, but struggled with turnovers and accuracy in his rookie year.
Jalin Hyatt (WR, Tennessee): He had the fastest 40-yard dash among WRs, but had limited catches and yards as a third option in his team's offense.
Devon Achane (RB, Texas A&M): He had the third-fastest 40-yard dash overall, showcased explosiveness, but was used primarily as a return specialist due to a crowded backfield.
Calijah Kancey (DT, Pittsburgh): He had the fastest 40-yard dash ever for a defensive tackle at the Combine, displaying impressive athleticism for his size. He played a rotational role as a rookie but showed potential.
Observations:

Richardson's athleticism didn't translate to immediate success due to other aspects of his game needing development.
Hyatt's speed didn't guarantee a big offensive role in his first year.
Achane's explosiveness saw limited usage on offense.
Kancey's athleticism translated into some rookie playing time, but not necessarily dominant performance.
It's difficult to say definitively that most of the great workouts led to good or bad years, as individual development, team situations, and other factors play a significant role.

However, Calijah Kancey could be considered a player who had a good Combine and a promising, although not dominant, rookie season.

Remember: Combine performance is just a piece of the puzzle. Scouting reports, game film, and character assessments all contribute to a player's success, making it difficult to solely rely on athletic testing.

--------

Bing AI: Certainly! Let’s delve into the 2023 NFL Draft Combine results and see how those standout athletes performed during their rookie season. Here are some notable players who had impressive combine workouts:

Jordan Addison (WR, USC):
Combine Stats: 40-yard dash: 4.49 seconds, vertical jump: 34.0 inches, broad jump: 122 inches.
Drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 1st round (23rd pick).
Rookie Season: Addison had a solid debut season, contributing to the Vikings’ passing game with consistent receptions and yards.
Adetomiwa Adebawore (DE, Northwestern):
Combine Stats: 40-yard dash: 4.49 seconds, vertical jump: 37.5 inches, bench press: 27 reps, broad jump: 125 inches.
Drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the 4th round (110th pick).
Rookie Season: Adebawore made an impact on the Colts’ defensive line, recording sacks and disrupting opposing offenses.
Deonte Banks (CB, Maryland):
Combine Stats: 40-yard dash: 4.35 seconds, vertical jump: 42.0 inches.
Drafted by the New York Giants in the 1st round (24th pick).
Rookie Season: Banks lived up to expectations, showcasing excellent coverage skills and contributing to the Giants’ secondary.
Jeremy Banks (LB, Tennessee):
Combine Stats: 40-yard dash: 4.53 seconds, vertical jump: 37.5 inches, broad jump: 127 inches.
Drafted by the New England Patriots in the 4th round (107th pick).
Rookie Season: Banks had a strong start, making tackles and playing a key role in the Patriots’ defense.
Jakorian Bennett (CB, Maryland):
Combine Stats: 40-yard dash: 4.30 seconds, vertical jump: 40.5 inches, broad jump: 133 inches.
Drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 4th round (104th pick).
Rookie Season: Bennett impressed with his athleticism, contributing to the Raiders’ pass defense.
Ronnie Bell (WR, Michigan):
Combine Stats: 40-yard dash: 4.54 seconds, vertical jump: 38.5 inches, 3-cone drill: 6.98 seconds, shuttle: 4.15 seconds.
Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 7th round (253rd pick).
Rookie Season: Bell exceeded expectations, becoming a reliable target for the 49ers’ offense.
Overall, most of the players who showcased exceptional athleticism during the combine had positive rookie seasons. Their performances translated well to the NFL field, contributing significantly to their respective teams. Keep an eye on these rising stars as they continue to develop in the league!

I would think they will avoid meeting Penix... they know him and don't want to give anyone reason to charge at him earlier... but they would have to either go in the 1st or trade to 2nd I'm guessing

Simms had Stroud #1 on his list last year.

It will be interesting to see what kind of Michigan bias is present with John making the shots and coach not being at combine... might still be there. I would be glad for Jenkins or Colson Jr. I'm still not sure what to make of JJ and don't want him.
