Sporting News Reporting possible Gruden/Holmgren tandem

Post#1 » by Danny Darko » Mon Nov 30, 2009 9:08 pm

Sporting News is making big unsubstantiated, but buyable claims:

Pro Football Weekly is reporting on its Web site that Tim Ruskell will not be back next season as Seattle Seahawks general manager, that Mike Holmgren might come out of retirement to replace him, and that Holmgren might try to bring in former assistant Jon Gruden as coach.

The magazine, citing unnamed "well-connected sources," reports Ruskell's contract will not be renewed. He is in the final season of a five-year deal.

The report also says Jim Mora "probably" would remain as coach if Holmgren returns as GM, but that it "would not be a shock" if Holmgren tried to lure Gruden out of the Monday Night Football booth to rejoin him in Seattle. Gruden was an assistant under Holmgren in Green Bay.

What a hollow, useless story. An op-ed saying it wouldn't be a shock if Holmgren wanted to hire Gruden. It's also possible the 'Hawks keep Ruskell, fire Ruskell, reach out to Cowher/Shanahan/Dungy, or invent cold fusion. Gruden took Dungy's team to the Super Bowl, and then promptly ran that program into the ground.

Well, one piece of that is already in place. Ruskell is out:
