Believable Speculation

It can be argued that Sheridan's credibility as a journalist in reporting the news obtained from sources he has is separate from his intelligence as an analyst in providing that shoddy take. Having said that, I'll concede that I have a low opinion of Sheridan on both counts.

Still, it wouldn't take a leap to believe what he is saying. Howard is notorious for being a prima donna whenever the spotlight isn't shining on him and has voiced his displeasure previously with the idea of being a sidekick [see Kobe Bryant & the Lakers]. Both Howard and Harden have been accused by teammates for being selfish and lacking in leadership [see Chandler Parsons and Donatas Motiejunas].

With the failure to launch in Houston, is it really hard to believe that Howard is throwing another tantrum when things are not going his way again? I have to think this is true regardless of who is reporting it because I find it harder to believe that Howard and Harden are getting along swimmingly with the Rockets crashing rather than there being animosity resulting from built-up frustration.

yeah i don't disagree. i just think it's probably exaggerated quite a bit by sheridan if anything. we all know what dwight is really like at heart and it's not too far from these reports.

Yeah, his reporting is even worse than his analysis, he's from the Broussard school of throwing random sh*t to the wall and hoping it sticks. He luckily guessed Lebron coming back to Cleveland, and when it took a while for Lebron to publicly announce it, he started backtracking only to then take full credit for his "sources", like Lebron is gonna talk to him of all people about something like that.

Since he got kicked out by ESPN, he's had a history of making up stuff like the Howard thing every time there's a deadline to direct some traffic to his crappy website, so I wouldn't put any stock on anything he says.

Don Nelson is at the Clippers-Spurs game.

Is he not close to the Warriors these days?

Did he fly from Maui, past Oakland, all they way out to Texas?

From My Personal Whine List

Post#46 » by Ranma » Sat Dec 26, 2015 11:28 pm

I'm going to own up to this a bit as some whining on my part since it really is unrealistic to expect teams to find talent from the D-League and it's only one game. Having said that, how come we don't find guys that can contribute right away in the NBA? The Wizards waived former Clipper Ryan Hollins to make room for NBDL sharpshooter, Jarrell Eddie, while we've signed guys like Jordan Hamilton and Lester Hudson. Hudson looked like he could help at times but Doc wouldn't give him the opportunity to do so.

We also have CJ Wilcox and Branden Dawson doing more for the D-League than what they've given us at the NBA level. At least they're getting regular playing time towards development, but Dawson was called up recently. It's just another case of Doc's talent evaluators in the front office not finding anyone helpful despite our lingering holes on the roster. Not to mention the lack of opportunity given outside of Doc's favored players.

Shams Charania, Yahoo! Sports (12/22/15)
Eddie has become one of the best shooters not in the NBA, connecting on 46.5 percent of his 3-pointers in two D-League seasons and winning the 2015 3-point shootout title at the D-League’s All-Star weekend. A 6-foot-7 wing, Eddie has transformed his game after going undrafted in 2014 as a senior out of Virginia Tech.

In 11 games for Austin this season, Eddie is averaging 14.1 points and four rebounds. He is shooting 52.5 percent from 3-point range in 5.6 attempts per game.

Seems like a nice pickup by the Wizards, would be nice if the Clippers made some of those once in a while

Rumor is Jeff Hornacek will be fired.

Think the Clippers will get involved in a trade with Phoenix?

i'd love some of phoenix's assets but i don't see how we'd have anything they're interested in.

Bledsoe being out should solve some of their "stuck in the middle" problems. Dont see them being good enough to make the playoffs now, but I would assume this means more minutes for Booker and Goodwin, which is a good thing for the future one way or another. Wonder if this turns them into sellers at the deadline now.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.

Who would the Clippers want from Phoenix that they actually want to give up?

Seems like the guys they would most want to trade would be:
Chandler 33 years ($13 million / 4 yrs)
Markieff Morris 26 years ($8 million / 4 yrs)
PJ Tucker 30 years ($5.5 million / 2 yrs)
Mirza Teletovic 30 years ($5.5 million / 1 yr)
Jon Leur 26 years ($1 million / 1 yr)

Tucker is only guaranteed for $1.5 million for next season with a June 30 deadline.

The Clippers main bargaining would seem to be trading a shorter contract for a longer one. The only ones they would really be thinking of are Chandler and disgruntled Markieff in terms of that line of thinking. Tucker is not really much.

Clippers certainly don't want to be on the hook with Chandler until he's 37 while already having DJ on the team too, and Markieff plays the position of Blake Griffin, so...

PJ Tucker could be a helpful role player / glue guy type, so he seems like the most reasonable one if you like his defense and rebounding as a 3, and he's a guy who you can use fairly comfortably as a small ball 4 because of his strength / size. I wouldn't mind Tucker, but who would you trade for him and who gets pushed out of the Clippers rotation? Tucker would probably usurp Luc since he does similar things but arguably a little bit better.

i agree. i think tucker's the only reasonable get, but there's just not really anyone we can send out that they'd want. it's too bad because he seems like a guy who could give us some pretty useful minutes.

Since you mentioned the Knicks, how about this non-exciting trade:

Lance Stephenson for Arron Afflalo, start Afflalo at SF.

I did mention that it wouldn't be exciting, right? Still, Afflalo is not anything special, but he has shown in the past to be a more capable mix of 3PT shooting and defense than most of the Clippers wings.

from all i've heard his defense has completely fallen off a cliff in the past couple years. i'd rather roll the dice with lance and just try and get him up to speed.

Nick, do you think the Clippers should not trade any of their players and just ride the season out with the guys they have? Internal progression takes time, but a trade is quicker.

a trade definitely needs to happen, because going into the postseason with jamal crawford, assuming paul pierce is going to get heavy minutes, is a disaster waiting to happen.

of the non-core guys i think aldrich/prigioni/johnson are must plays. and i think lance and smith need to be figured out and be playing at their peak for us to be able to beat a team like GS. i think pierce can help if he's playing like he is now, so that leaves rivers/luc/crawford as guys who i think just aren't gonna do anything for us. better to ship them out if possible to improve one of our spots.
