Barber Hurt last year

Postby catalyst on Wed Jun 09, 2010 11:29 am

Marion Barber has a hole in his left quadriceps muscle, and he played the bulk of the 2009 season with a torn muscle, according to Dallas Cowboys running backs coach Skip Peete.

Peete told ESPN Dallas it was a six-week injury and that Barber missed only one game in what was a disappointing season for him. Barber rushed for 932 yards but suffered the injury in Week 2 against the New York Giants.

Barber does not talk to reporters but surely is OK with others talking about his injury at this point. He also played with a broken thumb last year and had knee issues. By the end of the season, he was broken down.

Peete recently raved about the shape Barber is in, down 10 pounds from the 222 pounds the team listed him at a year ago. He’s attempting to regain some of his elusiveness in a crowded backfield where Felix Jones and Tashard Choice will be battling for playing time.

“There is no question about (Barber’s) toughness," Cowboys strength and conditioning coach Joe Juraszek told ESPN Dallas. "He's prideful about his job. As tough as he is and as much pride as he is, for him to miss any time is a surprise to me."

We’ll see if the hole in Barber’s muscle can heal before training camp gets going.
