Gordon/Gurley

Post#1 » by Schmoopy1000 » Sat Mar 14, 2015 7:33 pm

ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer believes Dallas will look at running backs in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft.
The departure of DeMarco Murray leaves a big hole in the Cowboys' backfield, one they could look to fill with the No. 27 overall pick. Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon and Georgia's Todd Gurley are considered the top two backs in the class, and both could be available late in the first round. Both players would fit well in Dallas, but Gurley is a more complete back.

I still want to use the draft for defense. But given the choice and if it is our intent here on taking a RB, I'd take Gordon hands down over Gurley.

Interesting, I think Gurley is head and shoulders the better NFL player. I'd be disappointed if we take Gordon in the first round.

Actually I'd be disappointed if we took any RB in the first round, so let me change it to I let someone else take Gordon.

I just think Gordon would fit perfect in our system with our style and OL. Plus IMO Gordon did a lot more with less. Nevertheless, I still want to go all out on defense in the draft. I'll be disappointed if DT is not addressed first.

I agree. Personally I'd love it if they could draft DT Carl Davis from Iowa in the 1st round. Of the two RB's though I would prefer Gordon. If Gurley wasn't coming off a major knee injury I would prefer Gurley but I'm sick of the Cowboys drafting injured players. Gordon is a very dynamic player that I think would thrive in Dallas' run heavy offense. I would definitely prefer they wait until the 2nd or 3rd round to draft a RB though.

if the draft is as deep at RB as I am hearing, there will be good RBs in the 2nd & 3rd rounds (maybe even deeper)

Go defense in the first. Get a RB in the 2nd or 3rd.

I've heard that the Cowboys might have an interest in drafting RB Tevin Coleman in the second round.

I'd be interested in that... I just don't see the sense of grabbing a RB in the first round when there are clear needs are on the defensive side of the field.

I agree! I'd love to see what Marinelli could do with a line consisting of ... Hardy/Crawford/Carl Davis/Lawrence ... We already have seen how he can coach up average talent. Let's see what he can do with potential pro bowl talent!

I think if we sign Hardy that Lawrence doesn't start. Mincey was fantastic last year. But, it doesn't matter. One of the keys to Marinelli's style is rotation so all would play.

I believe i rarely do this but I have to agree with BJJ. I think Gordon would be a perfect fit for our offense. If he is on the board I would take him over a defensive player, but if he is off the board we should be picking defense if there is someone there that makes sense.

Nothing wrong with agreeing with BJJ, he makes some good points when he is focusing on Football

Any thoughts of moving up in the draft? I still want DT in first round. How bad am I going to get slammed for wanting to move up For Brown or Shelton?

we seem to over pay when we move up. Only way I am good with it, is if it is a generational player. Probably not explaining it very well but basically trading up just for a starter isn't good enough for me. Has to be better than just a starter. For whatever high price we would pay to move up.

Want defense more than any RB but if we took Gurley or Gordon at 27 I wont overly cry about it. AS for moving up I don't see the need. Take the BPA needed player where we sit.

Totally agree. I am hoping for an impact defensive player. Leaning towards corner or safety now that we have Hardy and McClain, but I think the team has proven over the last few years that they know what they are doing in the draft. I may not agree with their decision fully on who to take, but I'm not going to complain whatever they do. As long as we take the guy we have rated as the highest I'll be happy regardless of the position.
