La'El Collins

Post#1 » by Schmoopy1000 » Sat May 2, 2015 9:24 am

LSU G/T La'El Collins says he won't sign his contract if he's drafted after the third round, and will re-enter the draft next season.
It's a power play from Collins, but a smart one. It's also evident Collins believes he has nothing to fear from the police investigation into the murder of his ex-girlfriend. It's quite possible Collins will end up buckling and signing if he's a Day 3 pick, but he has little to lose by planting the seed in teams' minds. He believes he's a day-one talent, and the money gets scarcer as the rounds roll on. Collins is arguably the player to watch on Friday evening.

So with him saying this. Does this mean he wont be drafted at all this year?

went undrafted, I would guess the same will happen next year as well. Sitting a year as a OL player is not going to do his draft stock very good next year. Hes better off being picky and signing a 1 year contract with a team of his choosing

He cannot enter next years draft, it's not allowed in the CBA. As I understand it he will end up making mid 2nd round money and be a FA a year earlier than those drafted.

Bad situation happened at a bad time for him. If he's cleared I will feel very bad for him. I will not convict him for a crime he's not charged against.

I dont know much about the kid beyond what I heard over the last few days about the murder of his girl friend, so i don't know if there was anything else in his backround that sent red flags or what. But i cant believe not one team drafted him wasn't he the #19 rated overall player?

not getting signed is a good thing for him, vs. being a late round pick. Now he can choose where he wants to go or even negotiate teams vs. teams for his contract.

Apparently La'el Collins is not the father of the child his ex-girlfriend was carrying. He's also been cleared of any involvement in her death. Now he's starting his visits and the Cowboys are up first. By the way he also has the same agent as a Randy Gregory. If the Cowboys can land Collins they will have ended up with 3 guys that were expected to be 1st round picks this year, two of which were considered potential top 10 picks.

Word is Collins wants to be a starting Tackle. I think if signed the Cowboys should give him a legit shot at RT and if it's clear Free is better then give him a shot at LG. Eventually he will become the starter at RT though.

I think Collins would win that T job soon over Free. Maybe Free holds the position this year but Collins will cost Free a roster spot next season unless Free moved inside.

Or Cowboys keep Free and have not only the best o-line in the NFL but the best o-line depth

Free may not want to play G and I don't think he has enough lower power to be a starting G anyway.

Plus eventually the salary cap will cause the team to use a few lower priced guys. The team has been one-yearing Free for a reason. I don't think they see Free as a long term Cowboy.

The #Cowboys deal for #LSU OL La’El Collins is for 3 years, fully guaranteed, per source. (@NFLCharean had it first)

I am glad that he was not involved in the murder and that he signed with Dallas. Getting him is a coup.

Interesting comment on the Ticket... you can make a legitimate argument that they ended up with three of the top 25 players talent-wise in the draft.. and the 1st round pick could be the lesser of the three.

I'm pretty damn stoked right now.

I was thinking the same thing.
Gregory top 10
Collins top 15/20
Jones top 20/30

All those nice top 25 talent picks, and no DT. I guess stopping the run is not a priority this year. With our schedule and all the smash mouth teams we play this year, I really thought it was the top priority.

In truth as they conduct their investigation evidence can come up against Collins. Sounds like he had absolutely nothing to do with it but until they tie the case to a suspect and get a confession or conviction this can hang over La'el and Dallas heads.

Have to remember the Police have not said Collins is cleared, and most likely won't unless the name another suspect.

Reports last week are saying Collins will be the starter over Ron Leary.

While I'm sure the company line will be "competition", I'd bet they are quietly hoping Collins steps into the lineup against the Giants. Improves the starting 5 and improves the depth behind them. Win-Win.

Collins should fit right in with the many other UDFA's in Dallas. Of course it's not often teams sign 1st Rd picks as a UDFA.

All La'el does is make this o'line somehow younger. I have to give complete props to Stephen for rounding this into what looks like a dynasty line to build upon like their other SB runs. The offense line sometimes gets thrown to the side with all of the talk about superstar play from QB,RB, and WR around the league. I am not worried once so ever about having McFadden run behind this line. If you are in the NFL, it all comes down to if you get open lanes. I do agree with Randle that Murray left a lot of yardage on the field even thought he still had huge year. I think with our trio of back, we can still piss pound defenses for 35 minute a game, and let Romo handle the rest as he has shown he can do because of last year. The cowboys have to as a team just have to stay on track, pound the rock, and keep motivating each other, and we will be where we want to be come december.
