What really bothers me is that the Lakers are an elite team year after year. It would seem like incidents like this would be less because of that.

it's basketball, have you ever played? I am no pro or even a YMCA gym rat, but I do know that it is definitely a contact sport and people do get hurt playing it. with that said I don't like the cheap shots like the Bynum on Barea one. the Metta on Harden is different for me. somebody made an analogy in the gb that helps see it from a different perspective . it went something like the 8 year old kid keeps poking the junk yard dog with a stick, he keeps poking him and poking him, one day the dog broke the leash and bit the kid. so because the dog bit somebody 8 years ago it will be put to sleep.

Yes I have played. No I have never elbowed anyone like that in any situation never mind on the basketball court.

I wasn't asking you if you have elbowed anybody, I was asking you about the unspoken rules of the game. the ones that dictate certain things that you just don't do unless you want to get hurt. to be clear in no way am I excusing Metta for what he did. he deserves whatever he gets. I will have no problem with his punishment and I do not condone what he did, but with that said you can't expect not to get "bit" when you poke a dog with a stick. even in a basketball court there are things you just don't do or you will get your a$$ beat. again I don't condone that, but I am fair enough to acknowledge the fact that if I am going to interrupt Ron Freaking Artest in the middle of an emotional happy dance I am going to get knocked the eff out.

Yeah, that was the problem.

Gek's clear and concise points:
1. Who makes a thread about fan viewpoints of elbowing people? Clearly we don't support and condone it.
2. You took two of our starters and focused on specific incidents and used it to judge their play and contributions to the team.
3. You're a Celtics fan and acknowledged in your last sentence that it could be trolling and to lock it if it is. Then you made a thread to complain about it for being locked when it was actually just merged into the thread that Lakers fans already had on the topic and you could have just read to get our opinions.

Call it whatever you want but I honestly didn't mind Bynum's hit on JJ I just didn't. This came at a moment when our whole team accepted defeat and showed no heart, he was the only one to show he actually cared about what was happening. IMO the hit didn't look that bad but sent a clear message.

Metta on the other hand....yes that was hard to watch. I could say I was a little embarrassed to be a Laker fan last night....until we got the WIN!!!!!
“If this is his team, that means no more coming into camp fat/out of shape, no more blaming others for our team’s failure, my team doesn’t mean only when we win it means carrying the burden of defeat just as gracefully as you carry a championship trophy.”

I don't think it will honestly matter all that much. I think Ebanks will do just fine and may even add a new fast break element with Sessions. I really like Ebank's ability with regards to help defense. Take a look at Lawson coming up in round 1 and Ariza like ability to help out down low and then challenge the shot is a big deal.

Man this is a dead beaten subject, guys need to move on.......who gives a damn how long he's suspended for ? Fact is he will be and that's a given. Lastly for the trolls/ outsiders/ those claiming not to troll.......we as Laker fans don't condone, accept or praise what Metta did. So don't try to make it out as it's been OK'd by us. And closing we've moved on our focus will be about the impending playoffs.

I listen to his comments and here is his twitter remark:
I just watched the replay again..... Oooo.. My celebration of the dunk really was too much... Didn't even see James ..... Omg... Looks bad

https://twitter.com/#!/MettaWorldPeace/ ... 4543163392

Now look at the replay:

He makes physical contact with him before throwing the elbow so he knew someone was there. The replay clearly shows that. So saying that he didn't know he was there isn't going to look good when the NBA reviews it because they're going to read and/or listen to his remarks and see how his statement contradicts the play.

Then to make matters worse he just runs down the court like nothing happened. I mean who wouldn't have felt that? You're going to tell me that if you elbow someone in the head, you didn't notice? The NBA isn't going to buy that. On top of it, he didn't even attempt to apologize or try to help Harden right after it happened. Had he done that right when it happened, that could have helped his cause, especially if he had done that without even feeling there was something there. It's going to be hard for him to talk his way out of it when the replay is reviewed.

Then the NBA is going probably going to put his past into consideration since he is a repeat offender.

When the whole world is beating on you, sometimes there is a misunderstanding. I really do believe MWP was celebrating and he may or may not have known about Harden. Sometimes when you're so in the moment celebrating, you're full of yourself, you don't see anyone nor do u feel anyone. He may not have even realized it or he may have felt contact and decided to say GET OUT OF MY WAY with that elbow.....i think he did mean to elbow someone, he didn't see James so definitely he didn't know if that was Durant, Perkins, Ibaka, Harden, etc. nor did he care who it was he wanted to pound his chest to declare himself the king of the world and he wanted anyone out of his way. He probably didn't mean to KO James Harden, but honestly only MWP himself knows what his true intentions were, anybody else claiming they know for a fact is just speculating and ignorant.

LMAO @PersianCelticfan

Creating a thread called "How do laker fans feel about their players who throw elbows" trying to bait us into something ridiculous.

Obviously there's dumbass fans for every team.
An there's also fans who stab their Finals MVP outside of their local bars.

Harden always irked me well before this game but I don't see anything wrong with what he did other than he was trying to get a rise out of MWP (something we've seen plenty of times). MWP always amused me with his antics as a fan but I wouldn't doubt for a second that he is actually nuts. As a laker fan I'm hoping for 5-7 games but I just don't see how his past won't be considered after how embarrassed the league was after the palace. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if Herr Stern dropped the hammer on Ron with something unfair and ridiculous.

One of numerous gems from one of the most entertaining reads in a long time:

Jackson: After we calmed down, [Artest] looked at me like, "Jack, you think we going to get in trouble?" Jamaal Tinsley fell out laughing. I said, "Are you serious, bro? Trouble? Ron, we'll be lucky if we have a freaking job." That lets me know he wasn't in his right mind, to ask that question.

im going to lessen my original prediction of 8 games to 5, seeing as harden is day to day

If you left right after the 2009 NBA Finals, then we haven't crossed paths in about 3 years. I did think you were someone, but since you mentioned it being 2009, my guess has been thrown off. Sorry, I can't think of who you were there.

Anyway, I should mention that I have plenty to keep me busy so I wouldn't say I'm bored. I do have a family and I'm raising a daughter that is nearly 2 years old now.

I appreciate that. Anyway, whenever you want to tell me who you were at 2K is fine. I'm in no hurry. I'm surprised you just noticed me since I have dropped by the Laker board before from time-to-time over the last 2+ years I've been a member here. I do also pop in on other teams as well, but I'm always posting at the Blazer board. :D

mwp suspension might not come until wednesday according to this article the longer it takes to decide his punishment the worst it will be

The NBA will not render a decision Monday as to the length of suspension for Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace, who elbowed Thunder guard James Harden on the left side of the head during Sunday afternoon's game at Staples Center.

World Peace was whistled for a Flagrant 2 foul, which under league rules warranted an automatic suspension.
Harden was diagnosed with a concussion at halftime and did not return to the game. His status is uncertain for OKC's final two regular-season games against Sacramento on Tuesday night and against Denver on Wednesday night, both at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The NBA Playoffs begin Saturday and the Thunder and Lakers will be participating.
There is no need for a rush to judgment on World Peace because the Lakers don't play again until Thursday night at Sacramento. In addition, NBA Commissioner David Stern is holding his pre-playoff conference call Wednesday afternoon and likely will address the situation at that time.

An NBA official said it is uncertain whether Harden's prognosis will factor at all into the length of World Peace's suspension.
