I really doubt Brown will opt out and sign for the same amount but just longer which is what he's headed for if he does try to test free agency. Brown has shown in the playoffs that he is just a SG he's not a PG when he tries to be one he gets turnovers . Being a great spark off the bench isn't enough in this NBA economy to get 5.8 million a year. Thats why I think he's better off sticking to his current contract also if he stays it'll be the first time in his career that he completes a contract with the team that signed him to it.

im not sold on Calderon....

i think Jack would be the better option of the 2...he can hit the 3 and plays good defense, both of what we are lacking right now

ALL HAIL wrote:^You're absolutely right. Mike Miller for the MLE would be overpaying because his role would be limited to the scrap minutes behind Kobe, Artest, and maybe Shannon Brown.

Raja Bell could be had for 2.5 a year and play better defense with over 40 percent shooting form deep.

raja would be good but i really hate him mainly because of the laker and phoenix rivalry before so i wouldn't want him in our team.

Darren Collison.
Although his scouting report out of college stated:
"- Decision making
- Executes offensively
- Pick and roll play
- Pure point guard
- Ball-handling skills
- Commitment to playing defense
- Defensive awareness
- Man to man defense
- Basketball IQ
- Likelihood of reaching potential
- Poise
- Strong Intangibles
- Unselfishness
- Winning mentality
- Work ethic
- High-level productivity
- Wingspan
- 3-point shooting percentages "

(bolded the relevant points)

some on this site have said he's not an adequate 3 pt threat nor big enough defender nor a "triangle type". I severely disagree after watching him for the past 10 yrs. Give him 30 mpg with 18 mpg for Fisher (against 2nd units) and PG is covered. Oh and btw, he'd destroy the zone with penetration and dish.

40% 3's % and overall 47.7% in his rookie season. And some say not a deep threat.

^ Maybe something around buying a late 1st (ATL, MEM, ORL, MIN ?), adding LA's '11 1st, and taking on a salary swap like Posey's extra year for Sasha? Or 3-way where they get Banks from TOR, saving even more salary for the Hornets (in part of the larger Bosh/Bynum?).
Not sure if the $ work. I'll have to math it out.

Why not both?

JJ Redick.

I'd love Kirk Hinrich, Darren Collison, or Ben Gordon but we dont have anything those teams would want.

mike miller would be our best option......bring him off the bench and when fisher is resting, put kobe at the point and miller at SG...
limit fisher's minutes, let kobe get some burn at facilitating and have mike miller rain 3's all nite...

also rotate artest and miller...

one way or another, we need to strengthen our bench

+1, we have 2-3 players who can play multiple position especially with the Tri, Artest-both Forward spot, Odom-both Forward Spot, Kobe 1-3, Miller could essential do that as well, play 1-3. If our bigs were better at their rotation we could get away with playing Miller at the 1.

Not knocking Miller at all, but this team has proven it can score plenty to win games...

The problem is we are still a shakey defensive team...

Yes we need guys to hit open 3s to spread the floor, but I don't think we need a pure 3pt specialist.

We need a guy, a gaurd, that has the quickness and savy to neutralize domininant PGs as well as the vision, smarts, etc to run the team in the tri... Someone with awesome passing ability... And some length would be nice.

We don't want Kobe running the offense too much because that takes a lot of energy, and we also don't want him gaurding the other teams fastest gaurds for the same reason.

We want someone that can allow Kobe to do what he does best on both ends of the floor.

We also need a physical interior presence... Which can fill in for any perimeter D issues we still have.

Once we have the Bynum (stay or go?) situation figured out and a Legit starting PG talent locked up for the next 4-5 years, then we can focus on a 3pt shooter for the bench.

Kilroy there are only 2 players in free agency that fit that description Felton and Livingston I think Felton is going to end up staying in Charlotte which I think makes Livingston the Lakers best option he's not a great 3pt shooter but he can hit 2pt jumpers pretty well his size will give most pgs in NBA problems and he can be acquired for half the MLE which would leave enough money to get that shooter everyone wants.

You might be right about Livingston... I'd be a little reluctant to call him a legit starting PG for us, but I haven't watched him that much this year.

Is his health still an issue or does he look like he's fully recovered.

Before he went down, he looked like the next big thing.

Yeah, if Bynum and/or Gasol aren't traded ... Shaun Livingston is my dude.

In addition to his passing game and floor leadership, Livingston has a "statesman/Fisher-like" quality.

gonna have to agree with kilroy, havnt really seen much of livingston since his return from injury.. im hesitant giving him a starting role just because he had potential before he was hurt.. im not against giving him a chance to prove himself, but idk about giving him the lead spot.

Nobody is going to give the lead spot to anyone. Whoever comes in here, Hinrich included, will have to TAKE IT from Fish.

^ pretty sure from the Washington board they're going to make a big pitch to keep Livingston in house with the way he played the last part of the year - and they have $$ to spend on him.
They'll run Wall/Arenas/Livingston/Young in a 4-guard rote, let Foye and Critt walk.

^Washington ain't gonna break the bank on the dude so it could come down to Livingston's preference ... playing behind young Wall or old Fisher.
