Should Odom Start Game 7?

Post#1 » by 7_ace_7 » Wed Jun 16, 2010 5:48 pm

I figured that the Celtics will probably start sheed, which will stretch our defense and make it hard for bynum to come out to the 3pt line. By starting Odom we have a more mobile defender who can contest rasheed at the 3. This also gives us an advantage when both teams go to the bench and glen davis is forced to guard bynum down-low.

I also see the counter argument saying that Odom plays a huge role in the second unit and he may be needed to bring stability and ball distribution, but it was just an idea. Your thoughts?

No. Play your game and make them adjust to you. Sheed has been getting in foul trouble pretty quick. That won't happen with Odom as he isn't in the paint or near as big as Bynum.

Play the same as yesterday and the Lakers should win.

Yeah, I agree. Keep everything the same and attack them where the Celtics are weak - which is their frontline. With Perkins out or extremely limited, the C's have no good match up with our Bigs. They will be in a world of hurt.

Yep, start Bynum on KG and Pau on Sheed...

That sets the defensive tone inside... He may not have to play huge minutes but lock down the paint to start and roll from there...

But we need Odom to play like he did in game 6. Or we need Fish from game 3.
And Artest has to be efficient on both ends of the floor.

While I agree with that sentiment for the most part, there is some merit in considering starting Odom if Sheed is the starter.

For one, Bynum hasn't played vs Sheed much and having him chase on the perimeter might not be a good thing for our defense or Bynum's knee. Sheed is big strong and long and not the greatest matchup for Bynum, especially not at 100%. He's a good defender that doesn't bite on fakes (can't believe it took so many games for Pau to figure this out, does he not watch tape?) its best to but a guy with quickness on him because his lateral movement sucks, you can get him in more trouble that way. Plus he'll have to come out of the paint to stay with Lamar.

The second benefit is that now you have Drew to match up with Baby, his length and size and stregnth destroy Baby, where he's been able to push LO around a bit. Bynum doesn't have to stray as far out of the paint and can keep that fat ass off the boards.

Starting LO also tends to really get him in the game better too.

They might not have a choice...

Bynum told coach, " you better take me out I can't run", there was swelling dev. behind his knee.

I myself saw him grimmace early in the game, but I wasn't sure if that was normal because of the injury he's dealing with or if it was something new. Likely it was new, he checked out soon after that grimmace, and I heard Coach say that at the presser about what Bynum told him.

He said after the game, "No matter what, I'll play game 7." Or something close.

He'll play. We may only need him a little bit anyway. But if he can play, he should start.

not this again with lets start odom... imagine how demoralizing it would be to bynum given how hard hes been playing under the circumstances and then bench him in the final game of the season wow just wow

I say we start Odom, then have him drive on Sheed so his lazy old ass can be out of position like it always is and he can smack straight down across Odom's arms and get called for the foul so he will then high step around half the court before getting a technical which will be followed by a string of MFer's and he will then be kicked out.... Then put in Bynum to get big baby in foul trouble so we can destroy Sheldon Williams and Brian Scalibrine.

Start Bynum. Assuming he is well enough to play 15 to 20 minutes. Get him going early cause
his knee will get worse as the game progress.

Plus you will want Bynum size in there so the C's don't get going early in the paint.
