We can still sign Barnes with the Vet Min for about 1.7/2yrs right...

The 1 yr/1.3 would have to be the remainder or a remaining portion of the MLE because you have to do at least a 2yr deal for the Veterans exception.

And we could still sign Brown because we have the Bird exception for him....

Or am I missing something?

Seriously can one person on this board name a PF/C who's still a free agent that is much better than Ratliff all the guys I named earlier are all about the same talent wise and what their still capable of doing.

The people who are complaining about Ratliff right now remind of a few years back when the Lakers drafted Cheik Samb there was an totally exaggerated outcry on this board against that pick. Ratliff isn't going to play much just like Benga the Lakers dont need a backup C that has name recognition or can average a double double.

According to a Aldrigde tweet.

He's likely replacing Mbenga, with Caracter getting a shot at Powells minutes. I think the wording was more due to the timing of it all(Powell signing with ATL today) than actually playing ratliff at the PF.

No Snaquille Ratliff is taking Benga's spot Caracter more than likely is taking Powells. Lakers right now have 10 players under contract once they sign Ebanks and Caracter they will be up to 12 and once the Barnes and Shannon situation is cleared up they will have 13. Everything we've heard tells us that the Lakers are only going to carry 13 players on their roster next season.

PG. Fisher, Blake
SG. Kobe, Sasha
SF. Artest, Barnes, Walton, Ebanks
PF. Pau, Lamar, Caracter
C. Bynum, Ratliff
Insert Shannon if the Lakers keep him but he only stays if Barnes doesn't come.

If Barnes goes elsewhere the Lakers are going to try to resign Shannon. If that doesn't happen than expect names like Mcgrady, Flip Murray, Rasual Butler to be potential Laker targets.

He is leaving almost 1.5 to 2 million to play for the Lakers. I think he wants the money and is just waiting for the better deal that will not be in LA. Got to pay for those ugly tatoos.

Its not just the money the Cavs have a starting spot available to him. With the Lakers he would be a backup SG/SF.

I'm in the minority here, but I prefer Shannon over Barnes. Given, Brown has many negatives to his game, mostly to his own stupidity, but he does provide us with one thing we severely lack on this, and that's athleticism . If Barnes were a sharpshooter, a defender or any kind of specialist, I could see a reason in getting him, but he really is average in every which way.
