Build a Lakers team DRAFT - Complete

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Thu Aug 5, 2010 7:58 pm

Image

Objective: Using the draft picks available to you, build the best all-time Lakers team that you can. You will have 8 draft picks to build your roster.

Roster Rules: You are only allowed to draft players who played an entire season for the Lakers (min or la). Once a player is picked, he is off the board. For each player you pick, you must choose which season, from his Lakers career, he will represent in your roster. For example, if you pick Kobe Bryant, you must choose one season from his Lakers career and he will be judged from his accomplishments that season. If you choose Karl Malone, you may only choose 2003-2004, not his Jazz years.

Draft Rules: The draft officially starts Friday morning at 10am. From that point, everyone has 6 hrs to make their pick from the moment the pick before you is made. The clock does not run from midnight to 8am. For example, if draft pick #4 is made at 8pm, draft pick #5 is due by 10am (8pm - midnight = 4hrs, 8am - 10am = 2 hrs, total of 6 hrs). You DO NOT have to wait 6 hrs and it will be much easier if you make your pick as soon as you can. IF your pick is coming up soon, and you have doubts about your availability, please feel free to pm myself or j-far with a list of players you'd like and we'll make the pick for you.

IF YOU MISS YOUR PICK you will automatically be assigned the next available player on the lakers all-time regular season scoring average list, if no one from that list is available, you will get the next player available on the lakers all-time games played list. It is the responsibility of the participant picking after you to assign you a player if they wish to make their own pick.

Draft advice:

- Remember who picks ahead of you and after you, this way you will know if your pick is coming up soon. We'll try to keep the title updated with info on who is up, but it might not always be up to date.

- Also, feel free to follow https://twitter.com/LakersRGMDraft, we'll try to post all the recent picks made with info on who is next.

- Feel free to make your draft pick as elaborate as possible including pics and explanations as to why your pick is so great. One sentence draft picks can get boring.

yea 1st pick baby, since I'm new school 90's I'm not gona pretend I know any body realistic play from the old days....

sorry just notice the official start but I'll start anyways since I'm bored you can start the clock officialy on Fri anyway

Kobe 02-03

30/7/6/2.2stls 45%fg 38% 3pt fg

consider this his most efficient season, doing everything he could to help the team win, became a beast defensively, got others involved, probably I say the beginning of his prime.

My only concern was the PG position. That position flat out sucked for the Lakers over the years with the exception of the greatest point of all time and I'm glad I drafted him.

I more than expected him to be gone by the first pick and made an alternative choice but lucky me!

^ Good pick. That was my selection had Magic been gone.

Should we keep all discussion in the original thread and leave this clutter free for picks? I'll split and merge once I get home from work.

I think all of you have made great picks. If i had top 3
1. Shaq 1999-2000 i think the best season of all time(not the greatest stats of all time but he was so good that teams were scared of him and all teams changes there game plan to try to stop him).
2. Magic 1986-87 He was the greatest PG of all time and this was his best season
3. Kobe 2008-2009 he was in killer mode. Not as fast or athletic as his early years but he was great and played smart basketball(other great season 2. Kobe 2000-2001 he had a great playoffs,3. 2005-4. 2006 he was wining games going 1 against 5,and number 4. 2002-2003 he was athletic and he was scoring but still not the leader he was few years later(but anyone of thoes would be a great pick).

Haha, I know you're trying to build a case for Shaq that year, but that was against the Clips. lol

That was one of the most dominant individual seasons in recent NBA history, followed by an even better postseason.

is the postseason being considered in the judging? if the season ended in a championship does that help or hurt?

That was easily my top 3. Interesting choice of seasons for Kobe. I would have picked one of his more recent seasons for dominance factor, but his explosiveness and youth in his early years was awesome. I am just hoping one of my #4 and #5 on my rankings are left for my pick at #6, either way the top 12 of all time are great players.

Figured a video was the best way to mention his 61 point game. 61 points is 61 points even if it is against the JV squad.

That video pretty much sums up what kind of a beast Shaq was in his prime. There was really no team that could contain him even with double and triple teaming. Over commit on him and he's too good a passer and there's another guy called Kobe waiting to pounce on ya.

Favorite play of that game was when he brought the ball up court gets hounded by the defense and throws the lob to Kobe from inside halfcourt.
