He's a frightening player. I know his mid-range isn't the greatest, but wide open I think he can hit it about as often as Pau. The rest of his game though would be incredible. Great P and R defense, can lock down Griffin and the more athletic PFs, can switch on LeBron, and most importantly he runs like a deer in transition.

I have a feeling Kobe would never give the OK..

As far as my opinion on the matter I'd hate to see Pau go but a more athletic PF could compliment Dwight so nicely..

Kobe will do whatever he can to win a championship. He trusts Mitch to make these types of decisions. Something that's rarely mentioned about Smith is that the bad shots he takes are usually deep mid-range jumpers in ISO. I think he can make the 16-18 footer if left wide open as Pau is when he makes his shots.

If Smith gets those opportunities, he'll put the ball on the floor and dunk it on someone in a millisecond.

No reason for Atlanta to do this

In all seriousness I like the thought of pairing Jordan Hill with Dwight in the sl and letting Pau back up at center. Who knows? That might turn out to be a terrible idea but I'd like to try it before shopping Pau out.

Atlanta would do this in a three-way deal, not at the moment though for Pau straight up. I like Jordan as the backup energy guy. He knows that role well and he does well in it too. He may lack size for a C but man does he fight hard, block shots, and provide energy while running the P and R well. In this day and age he's a perfect backup C.

I think the Hawks would need to add other playes to make money work. Would be nice, but Pau is still one of the best big men out there.

Pau has a 19 mil salary,Smith 13 mil....won't work straight up but I 'd die for a Morrow/Korver type player as a filler

It makes all the sense in the world for us

As Jajwanda said, with the shots Pau gets consistently from midrange I'd put my money on Josh making a similar percentage if not better than Gasol...remember,Pau's basically a 40% shooter now when he operates further from the basket

We wouldn't lose any of the playmaking Pau provides, nor the rebounding(Josh is similar in those aspects) but on D we would see a significant improvement
On transition also,2 athletic big guys running the break with Nash would be awesome

Youth+ being Howard's buddy are also big pluses

Don't know if ATL would bite though,Smith better start bitching about leaving a little to ease up the deal :D

There's too much talk about how Smith is an inefficient offensive player. When he has a great ball handler say Joe Johnson on the P and P how is he on the mid-range jumper when he's wide open by a few feet? If he can hit that shot well then the other team is ****. Miami in particular would struggle mightily to score on that kind of shot-blocking and transition D. Mark my words if Smith is traded here he will have a career year as far as FG%.

If were going to run Dantoni's offense, might as well go all in.

You need to find a 3rd team to do this.

Denver, Houston, Indiana, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Toronto...

You take away that pick and roll option at the 4 and the 5 with Smith and Howard, the other team is going to be in trouble scoring points. OKC and their repetitive predictable ISO/P and R attack would be in deep ****.
