No. Spurs were always the clear favorites. Lakers are on a rebuild and the Spurs always make it into the playoffs. All LMA had to do was do exactly what Marc Gasol did by putting it out there he wouldn't sign with the Lakers to save the Lakers brass and organization all the trouble.

The first meeting, I'll give that to LMA just being curious, but the Lakers royally screwed that one up. Instead of moving on to concentrate on other options and legit centers like Robin Lopez, Asik, bringing Ed Davis back, they kept chasing LMA around and also DJ.

Anyway it is what it is. I don't know the full story enough. Maybe Mitch and Jimmy did all they could. It just wasn't good enough to secure a solid contributing big man on a cheap contract for the rising cap.
