Re: Larry Nance Jr. - No. 27 pick, 2015 NBA Draft
I really like the pick. Great pick up.
What many people forget is that there is a huge bust ratio for picks this late in the draft. If you go back and check you'll notice that there might be a superstar drafted between the late first round and the second round but mostly you get 2... maybe 3 guys who even have a chance to end up being role players within those 33 picks.
Nance's stock rose a lot during the combine and after workouts. If you think he's the guy, and there is even a slim chance someone else will take'em, then why mess around? You just take'em. Rather than regret it later.
I like the pick. Plus very few GM's have a good late first round or second round draft record because of the high bust ratio. Mitch happens to have a pretty solid/respectable record with late picks. So... lets go Nance!

TyCobb wrote:Bummed they passed on Looney at 27, but this guy will become a fan favorite very quickly. He is Aaron Gordon lite, and Gordon was a guy I thought would fit this team last year. The best part about Nance is he clearly knows his role and limits and for that he'll be able to put his athleticism to good use right away. Good pick here.
I found this comparison over at LG.net. I'm liking the Aaron Gordon comparison even if it's not exactly the best fit.

44 inch vert would tie him for the second highest in NBA combine history
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/05/pat-connaughton-44-inch-vertical-leap-nba-draft-combine
Everything I've read has him at the 37.5 mark

Not that freak of an athlete i think.
If you see the word freak athlete, the lebron westbrook frobe etc comes to mind.
Perhaps a great athlete is the better phrase

Also not a great 3pt shooter yet... he said it himself in one of draftexpress video that he's comfortable with the college 3 but still working his way to have a consistent nba 3.

I thought that was already Sacre's role?
I kinda miss Ronny Turiaf now. We need a new cheerer on the sides.

Like dipstick says, lets see if he can guard 3s first
And i thought justin was a better 3pt shooter. Iirc he improves his 3pt percentage to like 40% ish, right? Larry got bigger size at 6'8" (sf/pf size) though compared to justin (sg/sf size). Thats all i know bout him without looking at the stats or measurements

The first part is absolutely true, which is why I'm quite adamant about drafting skillsets that have a high translation rate, i.e shooting and rebounding. Montrezl Harrell was the guy who I wanted at 27 (and we got Brown who was who I wanted at 34), because of his high efficiency rebounding. Worst case scenario, he's Ed Davis without the good defense. Best case, he turns into Kenneth Faried. I haven't seen enough of Nance to make an accurate opinion of him, but Harrell was my preferred pick.

Dude's giving himself a little too much credit... I don't think Lakers fans care that much what happens to him. I don't.
First he needs to prove he belongs in the NBA, then he needs to prove he belongs on the Lakers, then he can start worrying about what Lakers Fans thing of him.

I never required an Apology... And I'm not Christ, despite what the girls say.
Sometimes an unnecessary apology can do more harm than good. He said sorry at the press conference. He just keeps reminding people about the situation.
