Draft Night Deal: Morant to Orlando

Post#1 » by Bentley1225 » Thu Apr 25, 2024 3:01 pm

Ill swing for the fences here if Memphis wants to move on from Morant. By no means are there reports on Memphis looking to shop him but I think Orlando maybe a good spot if Magic want to maintain a top 4 seed standing in EC moving forward

To Orlando
-Ja Morant (4 years, $163 million)

To Memphis
-Cole Anthony (2 years, $26 million plus $13 million T.O.)
-Wendell Carter Jr. (2 years, $22.8 million)
-Anthony Black (3 years, $24.6 million)
-#18 pick
-2025 Denver 1st (1-5 protected)
-2026 Orlando 1st
-2027 Pick swap with Orlando
-2028 Orlando 1st
-2029 Pick swap with Orlando

Why?
-Memphis gets 2 guys in mid 20s who are capable of starting, a prospect in Black, 4 guaranteed 1sts and 2 picks swaps as they look to re-tool

Smart/Anthony/Rose?
Bane/Konchar/Black
1st?/Williams/Williams Jr.
Jackson/Clarke/LaRavia
Carter Jr./Aldama/#18

-Orlando goes all in on Morant as they look to make a move to bolster PG spot and compete to a greater degree in EC

Morant/Fultz?/#47?
Suggs/Harris?/Howard
Wagner/Ingles?/Houstan
Banchero/Isaac?/Okeke?
Bitadze?/Wagner?/FA?

It's always interesting when a team who has no player close to a star can somehow not include their 1st or 2nd best assets in order to acquire a star.

Send the Wagner brothers, Anthony and 2 1sts.

Feel like Memphis probably thinks they’ll be a top 4 seed next year as well and wouldn’t consider this.

I think Orlando owes another first if they’re trying to offer quarters instead of one of their higher value pieces.. And think Memphis only looks at this if they want to turn Ja into a different star and they have it lined up.

Yeesh. I figure they would get about 20 better offers than this.

Morant is 1 more gun incident away from playing in China. Doesn't fit the Magic image at all!

Regardless of what Lebron cheerleaders whine, there is no discount on the Ja price. You pay it full or find another target. The OP offer is not worth discussing.

I don't see Memphis taking a draft pick deal with the rest of their roster being competitive

So was their different owners when Gil played there? The offer itself is just not even worth talking about.

Memphis is ready to compete now, this would need a 3rd team selling a star that Memphis wants and willing to take the Orlando package for. I don't see a star right now that realistically could be available that fits better than Morant here.

I think a better and more realistic (RGM realistic) offer is…

To Grizzlies: Banchero + Black + Jett + 5 1sts

To Magic: Morant + JJJ + Aldama

Yes, it’s a re-set for Memphis. But maybe with everything Morant equals - this is just too tempting. Bane could get a nice haul too. It could be a quick rebuild around Banchero, #7, Bane (or his prime assets), Black, and ton of 1sts.

Magic go ALL-IN. Like full chips in the middle.

WCJ or JJJ
JJJ or Isaac
Wagner
Suggs
Morant

That is a legit “big 4.”

For a star player, you can't just send picks unless it's top 3 in a good draft. Have to send at least one good young player.

Franz, WCJ, Cole Anthony, 2 unprotected 1sts

Honestly it’s quite self explanatory why it is H*** No, but sure I got time.
Why would the Grizz tear down a team that has shown two years in a row they can be a top 2 seed when healthy. Our big three is JJJ 24, Bane 25, and Ja 25 giving us one of the youngest cores in the league. We are greatly positioned to add more talent this summer with a lottery pick and signed two young key role players to very cost conscious multi year deals. Ja and Jaren are both top 40 players and yet you want us to give them up for one top 40 player. We would be giving up the best player in Ja and JJJ is just as effective overall considering offense and defense as Paolo.

It’s not even basketball. Math doesn’t really work in your proposal to trade 1 star for 2.

Lebron cheerleaders?? What? Are you in the right thread?

As for the actual trade - it doesn't seem particularly close. No Franz? A handful of picks that dont look to have a lot of high upside chances arent going to be as attractive as you might want them to be. And can't even include Suggs but instead stick them with Anthony? It looks like just stacking up nickels with a dime or two and hoping you get to a dollar at some point.

I was thinking the same. What does Bron have to do with a Orlando and Memphis trade? No one brought him except this dude lol
