Kuzma, Smith for PWill, Carter

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Wed Oct 1, 2025 6:46 pm

MIL trades: Kyle Kuzma, Tyler Smith
CHI trades: Patrick Williams, Jevon Carter

Milwaukee moves Kuzma for a 3&D forward who is cheaper on an annual basis and I think is a more valuable guy in trades. They also add a familiar face in case one of their guards doesn't really work out - or, at worst, someone who is expiring and thus easy to trade.

Chicago gets off Williams a year earlier and they add a young forward who has at least shown he can shoot and I think is actually pretty talented.

I don't know why Bucks would do this trade...

Kuzma is on a shorter contract than Williams. I also think Kuzma is a slightly better player (although both are bad and overpaid).
The Carter/Smith swap doesn't add sufficient value to the Bucks to offset the Kuzma/Williams value differential.

As bad as Kuzma is, he's not afraid to look for his shot. Outside of KPJ, the Bucks don't have anyone besides Giannis who will do that. Whatever potential Williams may, or may not have, he's way too passive on offense.

My thought, frankly, was that they'd get more for their dollar from a subsequent trade and that Williams is a bit more natural at the 3. It is so hard to find someone to fill that spot for the Bucks given the amount of $ they have to work with. Cam Johnson would have been perfect if Denver didn't trade for him.

Disagree that PWill is more valuable in trades. If they had the same contract, sure... but they'd don't. I think PWill's game is pretty transferrable to most teams and most would be happy to have him in a vacuum, but it's simply an absurd contract length to commit to for what he's shown to be and that eclipses whatever on court preference teams have for him over Kuzma.

I've suggested deals of Simons from BOS to MIL for Kuzma and then flipped for PWill but that's specifically tied to tax calculations. Those don't apply with MIL here. That kind of scenario where it matter against a financial threshold is the only one, IMO, where a team would definitively take PWill's 4 year deal over Kuzma's 2 year deal. The other scenario might be one where a team's books are so clean that a 4 year term for PWill doesn't even matter to them and they prefer his easily fitted game over Kuzma who can be a chucker that takes away from other guys. Not too many teams have books clean for 4 years, but CHI is one of them so they might not even be interested.

On the MIL side, I think they'd rather keep Kuzma, deal with him and trade him on a shorter term. End of the day, neither player here will be valued more than filler in a trade and shorter term is usually better filler.

Williams at 4/72M is in the running for the worst contracts in the entire league. If for some reason Milwaukee was totally sick of Kuzma, telling him to stay home and not play is preferable to this outcome.

But I do think Kuzma has at least a sliver of value as a shot creator which Milwaukee is sorely lacking. He isn't efficient, but he sometimes makes stuff happen, which is far more than anyone else in this trade can say for themselves.

Pat WIlliams is so bad, hard to argue, as bad as Kuzma is, his contract is shorter... If you want a SF theres better moves I believe

Why is everyone trying to trade King Kuzma? Didn't Bucks just get him? let's see the fit with, Turner/Giannis/King Kuz first

Yeah, this makes so much sense and has been thrown around for a long time.

If you like Ayo as much as I do, you could tie Washington in (2026 swap with Mil) and have Chicago end up with a couple seconds.. or maybe Mil and Chi get a second each?

But the Bulls actually like Ayo and wouldn't like Kuzma.

Hell no?

Why would the Bulls want this trash?

At least Patrick is liked by his teammates
