Tor/Min - Rubio for 2011 1st

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Sun Jul 11, 2010 12:16 am

Minnesota trades:
Ricky Rubio

Toronto trades:
2011 1st unprotected

Inspired by a thread on the Tor board from a guy claiming he knows Ricky and was told he wants to play for the Raptors

Why for Toronto? We like Ricky. BC likes PG. Euro. Need a new face of the franchise.

Why for Minnesota? Let's face it, Ricky ain't coming to Minnesota. Raptors are going to suck next year. So you guys get our probable top 6 pick. Pretty good return. Could be a top 1-3 one. At which point the entire Raptors board would light themselves on fire.

Your premise is fatally flawed, as usual.

He doesn't want to come to Minnesota, but Toronto would be a dream come true right?

Minnesota fans are in love with Rubio. No trade will be accepted here by them except the ridiculous lopsided ones.

For good reason too, Rubio is a once in a generation talent. They just have to pray Rubio want's to come to Minnesota.

There's no reason for either team to make a trade like this. Rubio won't playing in the NBA this year, so why would the Raptors or the Wolves make a trade for an undefined pick.

I think there's hope from some raptors on our board that gherardini can call in some favours to get him here this year (would love to see someone do research over the connections between team fo that decides whether they want to waive some of his buyout and gherardini though). Also, with either calderon or jack being moved, he would be coming in into a pretty good situation with a decent backup to help him out, while still being the undisputed future PG of the organization.

Personally, I'd like to see the raps slide into a Mavs-Min deal sending al jeff to dallas, and TPE, and several picks to minnesota

As I posted in the other thread, I really doubt this happens. Being a TO fan I'd like it to but realistically i doubt Kahn will admit he can't get him over here without extreme overpay...

Wolves fans need to come to terms with the fact that Rubio is never going to play for them. If not a deal, this is pretty close. Derozan and a Top 10 protected first would seal it.

Rubio will never be traded while Kahn is Minny's GM. Kahn has basically staked his job on Rubio and told fans many many times at various functions that the future of this team is Rubio and he will never be traded.

Kahn says a lot of dumb things and lies all the time. He's not exactly someone you put your faith in.

So do you know Ricky personally or why do you know that?

It's obvious to anyone paying attention. There's not even a need to debate it. Here,

Foye: If Rubio plays for the Wolves I'll never post on RealGM again. If he doesn't, you never post on RealGM again. Deal? More of you can join in, too.

I'm thinking the deal would have to be contigent on Derozan AND the raptors getting/trading a top 3 pick next year. I can see Kahn using the expiring he trades Jefferson for to be used on Rubio next year plus the impetus in on the Raptors to make a package to obtain Rubio, not the Timberwolves to trade him. I see it sort of like the Evan Turner/Sixers deal. The deal will have to be unfair value wise otherwise what's the point of trading Turner/Rubio if you're coming out even and want the player you have in the first place?

How about waiting until you have been an established poster here on RGM for more than a month before you try making a "deal" like this.

Minny fans love Rubio and think he could be their franchise player. Raptors would love Rubio on the team but there are a lot of problems with a potential deal. Firstly, I don't think we have what Minnesota wants, and if we want Rubio we'd have to really overpay. Secondly, there are concerns with Rubio's NBA status and if/when he's coming over. Thirdly, in the OP's trade the Raptors are almost for sure going to be bottom 5. That means Harrison Barnes, Perry Jones, Brandon Knight, Kyrie Irving, Enes Kanter or Jan Veseley....all really good prospects.

If I'm the Raps I wouldn't deal an unprotected first for Rubio right now. I would do it when the lottery is set and we know where we're picking.

How about these supposedly confident Wolves fans show exactly how genuine they are in believing beyond a shadow of a doubt that Rubio would play for their team? If they are so sure, then there's no reason for them not to take this bet, if only to get rid of me. Because I'm sure. Judging from your avatar, I'm guessing you fall on Foye's side.

This is a fairly strong accusation. Got any examples to prove your statement? Not sure how things work over with you, but here you call that slander or calumny. And people have been known to get into lawsuits for claiming these sort of things.

@OP Don't be rediculous. The only (let me repeat: only) way, Rubio ever gets traded is if we get significant value and immediately. First of all, your pick does not promise that value (I am guessing probably late lottery, "worst" case Top 20) and secondly, this pick does not help us now. Should Rubio indeed not come to play for us next year, something that has repeatedly been denied by Rubio himself, we can still wait until the 2011 draft to decide on a move. And if we opt to do so, you can bet your ass that we will be getting a whole lot more than a late lottery pick in return. If you want to remain credible on these boards, I strongly suggest stop posting this sort of trade.
