Look for that one to be finalized Monday. Kings to add Johnson on last-year deal for their frontcourt rotation. Raps to shed a $2.8M salary

Yep. A 2nd. I could go back to old trade threads and make 65% of raps fans eat their words right now. Lol.

JJ had problems with Casey, and was benched for a lot of the last part of the season. That and Landry Fields is probably why this was made.

I don't like it at all though. JJ can be really stupid at times, but he was pretty good defensively, and can guard multiple positions.

Value seems right.

I think this does open the Derozan at sf chance, and Fields and Derozan can probably man the spot as well as without Johnson so hard to take offense for Toronto.

For Sac they add a mediocre player at their position of need. Maybe it might tighten the defense some, but at some point they need to upgrade the position more then this.

Obviously, if JJ was the odd man out in our rotation (likely), trading him was the right choice. Especially since getting rid of Kleiza would have cost us a lot more.
Still personally, I enjoyed watching the kid and would have loved for him to remain part of our rotation.

Is there any word on that future second?

Is it one of those top-55 protected, or a genuine 2nd rounder?

Haven't seen it yet. But some interesting updates on previous picks:

Lakers 2015 1st to Phx (appears unprotected). And yes, that is the year that Kobe and Gasol aren't under contract for.

And the Minnesota salary dump of Brad Miller, the 2 picks Minnesota gave up were unprotected 2nds while the pick they got back from Noh was a top 55 protected, so it would appear to be fair to say it cost them 2 2nds to dump Miller versus jus one.

The Kings grossly overpaid for James Johnson if their second is not heavily protected.

Except that Colangelo gave up a late first for him a couple years ago, before he showed that he's actually a rotation worthy player. :nonono:

Because?

I think you grossly overrate the value of a 2nd rounder, or your just trying to troll Toronto fans.

Well, I think that was a bad deal  But seriously, he is close to off his rookie contract. So Toronto got 2 years of him on his rookie contract for falling back from 28th to 38th(?). Hard to complain too much about that on value, although it clearly did nothing for the team long term.

I guess if you looked at it like that then it's not that bad. But I'm not sure why people think JJ is overrated and why Sacramento fans don't like this trade. JJ is a solid rotation player and still young. Very good help defender as well. Like I said he seems to think he's MJ sometimes and is an awful shooter, but still a good rotation player.

I think we can even say that JJ was our best 2/3 last season. Kleiza sucks, DeRozan was pretty terrible, and the others were d-leaguers. I would also say JJ is better than Fields.

Value seems low to me...... I thought Johnson showed a lot of promise last year, as least as a defender......

I mean, I kind of understand if the owner went to the GM and said, "You need to dump a couple of million in salary." Outside of that< i don't really see the reasoning for this......

Seriously I think you and Don Nelson are the same person. Somebody who has a grudge against The Raptors. I mean what happened did The whole Raptors team run a train on every female on your family?

It's like every Raptor trade you say the same ****, "BS Raptor trade where we rape" or something stupid like that hell we could have moved Jonas V for Hasheem Thabeet and you would be like Houston passes (when they had Hasheem) cause he's more NBA proven.

The reason that kings fans don't like this trade is simple.

The kings needed 3pt shooting out of their SF badly. We need our SF to be able to spread the floor for Cousins and Evans and still haven't found someone to do it reliably. Our offense is horrible to watch because we don't have any perimeter shooters at the right positions. Everytime someone goes into the post the defesne can collapse without any fear of our other players getting an open 3pt attempt. Chances are if we are shooting from the 3 we are going to miss.

Right now any of our good defensive lineups will have a maximum of one shooter on the floor at a time. The rest of the guys are playing in the post or are slashers.

That Kings' 2nd will probably be in the 31-35 range...I would have pegged JJ's value as right around there.

I think Toronto could've gotten a bit more out of this. BC must have thought Fields' 3 pt shooting would be more important than what JJ could bring.
