Atlanta Hawks Cap Space

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Tue Apr 22, 2014 12:33 am

Updated 4/16 with signing of Austin Daye to a two year contract.

Current Cap Space: $4,680,152.00
Maximum Cap Space: $4,680,152.00 (if all options/guarantees were not picked up, all FAs renounced, no draft picks were to be signed this season, and all Exceptions were renounced)
Luxury Tax Space: $18,444,152.00
Tax Apron Space: $22,444,152.00
Hard Capped due to Thabo Sefolosha Sign & Trade
2015-2016 Maximum Cap Space: $25,123,083.00

How I got there:

Guaranteed Contracts (15): Pero Antic, Kent Bazemore, Elton Brand, DeMarre Carroll, Austin Daye, Al Horford, John Jenkins, Kyle Korver, Shelvin Mack, Paul Millsap, Mike Muscala, Dennis Schroeder, Mike Scott, Thabo Sefolosha, Jeff Teague

Partial/Non-Guaranteed Contracts Kept to date (0): None

Carried Money (4): Austin Daye 1 ($53,838.00), Austin Daye 2 ($53,838.00), Jarell Eddie ($29,843.00), John Salmons ($1,000,000.00)

FA Cap Holds (1): Gustavo Ayon

Draft Pick Holds (0): None

Current Exceptions: Room Exception at $2,732,000.00. No BAE due being under the cap. No TPEs.

Re: Atlanta Hawks "Real" Cap Space

Don't see us putting a QO on Ayon. We typically like to have a spot open for street FA types (ala, Martin) and there's 15 roster slots taken even after the renounced FAs so we'd want to open one up somehow and Ayon seems like the likely candidate.

Traipsing back over the numbers:
$46.65M - 8 Guaranteed Contracts
$ 2.07M - 2 Non-Guaranteed Contracts
$ 2.26M - 2 RFA cap holds (Cap holds for Scott/Mack; minus Mack)
$ 2.97M - 2 1st round Draft Picks
$53.94M - 14 players (Total)

I guess the "Real" Cap Space is dependent on whatever you see the cap next year to be, but adding Ayon's $2.85M cap hold to $3.91M put the total cap at $60.71M and the amount of Real Cap Space at $6.77M. I'm assuming that these would be the numbers you're going forward with... is that correct?

That is correct. I assume as a Hawks fan, you know more about Ayon's situation than I do. I was taking my best guess. But, yes, if you add the 2.8 cap hold for him back to the space by not offering a QO and then renouncing him, you end up right around 6.7. Also, good call on leaving the 15th spot open. They could also do this by waiving Muscala, but he may have more value as a cheaper alternative to Ayon.

One note: I don't think the Bazemore signing is actually official. We announced it, but that doesn't mean we actually have the ink on the contract quite yet. (Note that this is actually pretty common for us; we actually did an SNT with OKC 5 days after the moratorium.) This is only important because we can actually fit Bazemore into the Room MLE so as long as we haven't actually signed him, we could have an extra $2M in "Real" cap space...

You are correct. He hasn't actually signed yet. I have him included in here, to attempt to give the full picture of all deals that have been agreed to. The conservative estimate is 2 million for him, but he may yet get the full Room Exception.
