Boston and Memphis Trade Ideas

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Tue Jul 22, 2014 5:12 pm

The Celtics have a glut of PFs. Memphis needs another big. Memphis has too many wings. Boston could use another true wing. Here are my ideas:

Simple trade

Boston trades: Brandon Bass
Boston acquires: Tayshaun Prince and 2 second round picks

Memphis trades: Tayshaun Prince and 2 second round picks
Memphis acquires: Brandon Bass

Why for Boston? This helps ease the PF logjam and frees up minutes for Sullinger, Olynyk, Zeller, etc. They get 2 second picks for a player they don't really need anyway. Prince expires at the end of the year, so it doesn't hurt anything long term.

Why for Memphis? They get the extra backup big man they need. Bass and Koufos are more than capable backups for Gasol and Randolph.

More complex trade

Boston trades: Brandon Bass, Jeff Green
Boston acquires: Nick Calathes, Jamaal Franklin, Jon Leuer, Quincy Pondexter, Tayshaun Prince, first available 1st round pick Memphis can trade (they have protections with Cleveland that make it a bit messy)

Memphis trades: Nick Calathes, Jamaal Franklin, Jon Leuer, Quincy Pondexter, Tayshaun Prince, first available 1st round pick Memphis can trade (they have protections with Cleveland that make it a bit messy)
Memphis acquires: Brandon Bass, Jeff Green

Why for Memphis? They expand on the first deal by also adding Jeff Green. He would step in as Memphis' starting SF. This balances out Memphis' roster nicely. They shed players and deals they don't need. This leaves Memphis with:

Gasol/Koufos
Randolph/Bass
Green/Carter
Allen/Lee
Conley/Udrih

That is as deep a team as there is in the league. Well protected against injuries too. They already matchup well with San Antonio and I think this just helps that even more.

Why for Boston? They move Green's deal. I don't think it is terrible, but this frees up more long term cap space. They add 4 expiring deals and take on Pondexter. If Pondexter can find his form from 2013, he's a nice SG/SF. This frees up immediate SF minutes for Young as well, behind Evan Turner. And the Celtics add yet another 1st round pick to their treasure chest.
