BOS-CHA-IND

Post#1 » by Higgs Boston » Fri Aug 29, 2014 12:48 am

Boston in: copeland, mahinmi, charlotte round 2015 top10 protected
Boston out: Green
Charlotte in: Green
Charlotte out: Henderson, taylor
Indiana in: Henderson, taylor
Indiana out: copeland, mahinmi

Reasons

Boston: needs another C and wins asset for Green
Charlotte: needs another scorer and SF with starter level.
Indiana: needs another SG and scorer with some performance, and Henderson has PO next year but mahinmi is guaranteed.

I would do Gerald + Jeff for Green but not with a 1st round pick

No we don't. We may have lost Lance but we brought in Miles and Stuckey, who will both be playing a lot of 2. We also have both Hills capable of playing the 2. On top of that, adding 6 mil next year for Indy is a bad idea for someone like Hendo who isn't much of an upgrade, if at all. I like Taylor as a prospect, but he's expiring anyways.

And if we move Mahinmi, we need a center back. Lavoy Allen can play it in spot minutes, but not full time backup center. We also love the production he gives for 4 mil a year and consider it at least a borderline bargain contract, so we likely won't be moving him unless we get something good back.

Okay, Indiana needs a better SG.

While that may be true, Henderson is not a better SG and just creates a logjam of similar players, while taking our only backup center. Adding Taylor only adds to the logjam and he likely wouldn't get many minutes and would leave for a better situation at year's end. It's a bad trade for Indy and not even close to the direction they'd go.

Sure.

Now, where do we get one in this deal? I don't see 'em.

But no, we probably won't trade Mahinmi for another backup wing player that isn't better than what we already signed, and will just clog the roster when he opts into his deal for 2015. I'd rather have the backup 5 that we'll need/want in Mahinmi.

And Copeland, well, we just love him. It may be irrational, but we hope he'll be an offensive sparkplug off the bench, and would love it if he could play the 3 this year after losing a ton of weight.
